Didn't know I signed up for the Beta team

Okay, sorry for the trollish title; long time player of OOTP baseball and imo it is just about the perfect sports sim in existence. I understand FHM is still early in its development phase, but I've had to scrap two historical replays already that I was enjoying, one because the names database got corrupted by an update, another because AI teams were constantly releasing young, star players with huge potential, sometimes resigning them, sometimes letting them go to another team, who then promptly released them as well. A lot of promise in this game, I'm certain at some point it will be great, but right now it is unplayable for me and I have no idea when to jump back in. Don't want to get caught up in another league that has to be scrapped in two weeks..

Don't download patches right away. Wait a week or two. A lot less problems afterwards.

I don't want to 'patronize' you but this is the reality for this kind of games. You just have to wait for 4-5 patches (sometimes even more) for this game to became playable.

I always experiment with my first few games before I choose what I really want to play.

Nothing is written in stone for a few months.

Hmmm. interesting thought...... as much as I try to take the perspective of the developers in complaints and issues .... I did think to myself that these issues might make me think about looking into the next few games rather than the next one....

I have kind of jumped on board with this game... and I do enjoy it... I have done several projects, and haven't seen or noticed the issues that have been raised as much .... but I have realized this game is limited in the current form.... but most of the things I have realized have been limitations in editing and control... and this is easy for me to accept .. especially for an early version ....

the in-game options are great, and fun

But I look forward to what will be .. and I am enjoying a lot about it right now despite this or that issue.....

But as I said, I have been doing more projects to get things established for me more than getting too deep into the game itself ....

But I am cautious about what I may run into ( i have loads of extra saved files sitting on Aug 15th fx) ... but am also happy enough to still work on establishing things as the patches come and improve things before I get in it too deep......

Well I'm playing it and having a really good time, it's hardly "unplayable", and quite frankly I think that's a ridiculous statement.

I think the developers should know there are some people enjoying the game as it seems the "noise" is coming from people who are unhappy. I know they're working on improving and fixing the bugs that are there, but having people make smartass comments and threads can't be easy for them.

In another thread someone is playing a Historical Game and the standings are wrong. I guess that would make the game unplayable(unless you like lesser teams making the playoffs and the better teams not making it).

Same thread, it was answered that it appeared to be 1 problem with the 2013 changes.... and that change would be made...

I really enjoy the game too. It's not perfect, but it certainly is playable. And about the whole beta thing, it's just the way the industry is now (sadly). Can you name a single game that doesn't need patching after release? I mean, I paid much more for AAA games on my console, and many have bugs/crashes that are still not fixed long after their release. At least, here, the OOTP team listens to the community and works very hard to fix as many bugs as possible.

Just my 2 cents.

Glad you're having a really good time, Brett. I know the developers are smart and hard working and will eventually work out most, if not all of the kinks, but they're big boys and can take a little constructive criticism. Take a look at the nonsensical moves made by the AI below. I haven't touched any settings, straight historical replay, I don't even control a team. Makes it unplayable for me. Maybe this type of thing doesn't bother you, that's good, nothing wrong with being easily pleased. I just don't want to start a third league and have to scrap that also. Guess it's back to OOTPB for the time being. Not such a bad thing.

Maybe I just got a little sensitive lol . I haven't played historical so I can't really give an opinion on that. I just have faith that the development team is listening to all issues and doing their best to rectify them as quickly as they can.

These type of games are incredibly in depth and bugs are inevitable no matter how long they're worked on. I just think sometimes people get very hyperbolic in their criticisms

It looks like something happens Aug. 31st that causes a disconnect for these teams.

You may want to post this in the bug report thread and see if they request a game save to look at.

No need, Malte found and fixed the problem earlier this week, it'll be in the update.

It's a fun game. My historical replay is now messed up with the name issue for 1939-40. I do agree tha tthe AI doesn't handle the historical teams properly. Too easy to acquire good players.

Maybe I'll start a new one in the 1940s

A lot of the new versions do go through beta testing before they're released to the public as well. So honestly, some of the bugs people in the general public come across may have already been spotted by testers and gotten fixed, but then it's just a matter of waiting until it's released.

I'm still personally waiting until fictional gets patched to include expansion for minor league teams, too. But it hasn't hindered my enjoyment in getting it set up to play that. The game is by no means "unplayable", even if there are some rough spots being ironed out. It's a brand new engine compared to the old one, these things are going to happen. Just gotta keep your faith in the development team (who aren't a big size group to begin with).
