Meet the Community

Hi.

I'm Hpawn. I used to take as much as I could from the community. I downloaded logo's, name sets, quick starts, and all other sorts of cool mods that made my experience better. One day, I figured out that I could make jerseys that were passable. So I started to contribute to the community. Funny thing is that when I started to contribute to the community I stopped being such a jerk. I started to think twice before I posted a complaint.

Trust me, I've argued and I have been warned. I have griped excessively and wrongly to Markus about the UI one time. As it turns out I was wrong. I quite liked the UI change from 14 to 15. Funny...there was this one time after taking a statistics course at USF that I tried to bullspit everyone into thinking I'm smarter than I really am. Luckily, I got away with it and only fooled the people who didn't know better. In the end, I chilled out and stopped trying to be the smartest person in the room. Sine then I have made a bunch of friends here and on Steam...and in real life.

Anyhow, that's me. I'm a contributor now instead of a complainer. If you ever need something I'm here.

How about you?

How has the OOTP community made you a better person?

Hi, I'm David Watts. Well not really, but I always wanted to be like David Watts, so I figured what the heck. I guess by Pawns definition, I would be a taker. I'm about as creative as....well I'm not even creative enough to come up with something, so I'll let y'all fill in the blank. I'm originally from Michigan, but I now live in Louisiana. I've been on these boards for what seems life forever, but truth be told, I'm not really proud of my pre-2009 years. Yes, I used to be quite the jackass. Like Pawn, I've been warned. Unlike Pawn, as you can see I've even received infractions. Took me a long time to realize alcohol made me an obnoxious tool, not a genius.

Now I'm the crazy random debut guy. If Markus has fatheads of all of us on his walls, I'm sure I'm in the oddball section.

I love these forums almost as much as I love OOTP. So many great ideas. So many great stories. I learn so much from all of you. Thank you.

Hi, I'm ihatenames and I have a problem.

I've bought every version of the game since 2002. I'm definitely a taker in terms of the community. I lack the programming or artistic skill to do what you guys do. But, I'm thankful there are many who donate their time and energy to make the game more enjoyable for others. You guys are the backbone to the community.

When I first started posting here I was 20 years old. I've essentially "grown up" with quite a few of the people here. Ootp will always be part of my life as long as Markus lets it. While I don't know if this forum has made me a better person this forum and game has helped me in many ways over the years. So a big thank you to the community and Markus and his team.

Hi, I'm ussoldier2002. I am not really anything here honestly. I guess you could call me a lurker. I contribute to some conversations but not really alot. I create all my own stuff, uniforms, stadiums (in simcity 4) and use the images in ootp. I do enjoy coming here and reading the conversations. I mostly like looking at the general discussion and suggestions forums.

Anyway that's me.

Hello.

I generally don't go inside this forum, although I sometimes lurk. I usually spend my time in OT/OTD or Talk Sports. Every now and then I'll take a look at a OOTP Dynasty.

My personality is sarcastic and flippant, although sometimes it doesn't come across that way. Hope to see you guys in the off topic forums....

Hi, I am Assos and I have been here a long time. I try to help as I can, directing people to places that have the information they seek. I am not tech savoy as I use to be, I seem to have gotten old. I am a Mets fan and I am not ashamed to have been one since 1984! But as in most Mets fans, we know that something will go wrong this season (off season). I like to discuss and wonder in marvel of this game and how it has sucked some many hours from my life. I was just a historical player, but after 14 years, I am digging the fictional!

Hello, I am Corona. I use OOTP to simulate what it would be like if the Miami Marlins were bought and handled like Man City in England, given a huge budget to try and win the world series. I have a lot of fun trading and paying for guys who would never play for the Marlins. I suffer enough when the Marlins trade away players IRL, I could not do that in a video game lol.

Hi, I'm Cinnamon J. Scudworth. Way, way back in the 1980s when I was a secret government employee I dug up famous guys and ladies and made amusing genetic copies. I worked to subvert my secret board of shadowy figures' evil plan of world domination with my own plans, plans that didn't involve those shadowy figures at all! Along the way I coached the clones' basketball team, football team, fútbol team, and cross-country meet rioting committee.

Unfortunately, things did not work as planned. It turns out that I'm much better at managing sports teams than carrying out nefarious schemes. I discovered OOTP in time for version 10, and have played every version since.

Yeah. I'm Rusty.

I am a poet, government cog, and huge baseball fan.

I also get grumpy sometimes because the world sucks.

But I enjoy the game and play it every day.

Do I contribute positively to the community? I actually don't think that is the kind of claim that one should ever make about themselves. I don't know. I guess that would depend on whether anyone likes reading my very minimalist dynasty reports.

Hi. I am that Raccoons guy, who doesn't stop spamming about the same old godforsaken team that the league should rightfully contract immediately.

I have many names. I usually go by Westheim. I also tend to do my shabby business under the assumed aliases of Richard Westfield, and Justin Westfield. Long ago, I went about under the cover of the name of Margolis. Recently I have imposted to be Daniel Hall as well.

You see. For you are one (presses hands together), but I am many (opens his arms).

In moments in which I am not actively or passively nuts, I might be anything from passive-aggressive to bored to mellow and all the way to distructively dejected - whereever you are, whatever you do, hope is something that should be abandoned first thing in the morning.

The community has not made me a better person (it has tried, though). Some things are broken beyond repair. It's by internet standards a fairly pleasant community, though, and I try to not stand out too much.

Yeah, I fail.

Hi, I'm Rizon, one of the founding members of the original Off Topic section, and former Top 3 poster on the forums from 2000-2003.

I'm the guy who, when GForce started 474,000 Hot-or-Not threads back in the day, decided the pictures all belonged into one thread ... the Thong Thread. I'm also the guy who holds the record for most aliases created on these boards, including but not limited to: Nozir, Shannon, LivnLegend, The Phoenix, MrsKippy and the infamous Twins34. Oh, and I am the owner of the 10,000th and 100,000th posts on these forums. I also have frequently had run-ins with the site administrators and moderators over the years.

This community has made me a better person because now I don't spend the time uploading dozens of thong pictures to the internet, and I only clash with the mods once a year.

I'm Tej.

The details of my life are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.

Hello, I'm Cadieux. The french guy, the new kid, that guy who is like your annoying little brother asking all sorts of questions on how to play the game.

I like creating historic fictional leagues and playing with my Montreal Wanderers team. I am new to OOTP, I do my best to understand the game and modify it to my liking. I have played the game for about 75 hours according to steam.

I try to contribute to the community, i got thanked once for helping some guy out... But generally speaking I'm the lame duck always asking questions.

I'm an artist by trade, and often have a beard because I'm too lazy to shave.

Hello! I am Tony.

Although new to the forums, I have been playing OOTP since 2011. Should have been studying for finals, but found the game and have been playing obsessively every since. Now that I work for a living, ugh, I do not get to spend 8 hours a day on the game, but I make sure to squeeze some time in every day to push my leagues forward.

I work for a University, so I get to spend a lot of time on this forums watching you guys tinker, mod, evolve, and argue every day. Keep up the good work, it is nice to part of a community that loves this game as much as I.

I am the game, you don't wanna play me.
I am control, no way you can change me.
I am heavy debt, no way you can pay me.
I am the pain and I know you can't take me.

I used to bug people left and right to get custom jerseys and logos. Now that I have them and can make some on my own i mostly just sit back and play OOTP. I try to help when I can. Missing some of the people I used to fight with in OT, they were annoying but they made the forums more fun.

I also tend to bump random (and not so random) threads so they get noticed again.

My name is Stacy. I've been playing OOTP since 2010 and I feel there isn't another baseball sim on the planet that comes close to it. I am a huge fan of the Cardinals and Doctor Who and I am the commish of two online leagues. When I play OOTP, I usually do a semi-fictional league in which I use the latest MLB quickstart and create a league using the fantasy draft. I usually draft young prospects and follow their careers until the league becomes entirely fictional, at which point my level of immersion determines if I stay with that league or dump it and start a new one.

As far as contributing to the forums, I usually reply to posts of someone who is having trouble editing rosters or importing players. Being an online commish, I have discovered ways to update player ratings quickly and efficiently after importing leagues from an old version to a new version of OOTP. I have an Excel macro I can share with people that will accomplish this within seconds. The idea is to cut down the amount of time it takes to keep the league database updated with each new version. Unfortunately, the new ratings don't import unless you start a new league, so I have had to go this route, which is fine since I have learned a lot more about Excel this way.
