Pre-Season Suggestion

Here's a suggestion I would like to see implemented. It's great that you are including some pre-season games to get a look at your players, specifically your young talent.

The problem is, during pre-season you are still limited to the 23 player roster. This prohibits you from calling guys up from the minors and give them some playing time to evaluate their readiness. Just like in the NHL, the rosters should not be limited to 23 players during the pre-season. It should be opened up so you can call up a bunch of players to evaluate. I'm thinking at least 50 roster spots during the pre-season and then you can cut players down to the 23 spots when the regular season starts.

Right now, with the roster limitation I dont find much value in the pre-season addition to the game.

Thanks for listening!

From NHL.com - Hockey Operations Guidelines

Quote:
23-man Roster
There may be a maximum of 23 players on each Club's playing roster at any one time from the commencement of the NHL regular season through the trade deadline. Prior to the start of the season, each Club must submit to the NHL its "Opening Day Playing Roster" which shall be comprised of not more than 23 players. Each Club must have a roster of at least 20 players, composed of 18 skaters and two goaltenders. Players on Injured Reserve do not count in the 23-man limit.
An action on the day before the regular season to submit the roster could be the event that switches from preseason to 23 man limit. edit Actually, 12 days before regular season may be the better time to coincide with waivers...

Roster limit with waivers effects

Waivers start 12 days before season start... see litterboxcats.com - A Guide to the NHL Waiver Process

Quote:
For the remainder of the regular season following the trade deadline, only four players may be recalled. However, players may be recalled on emergency recall, and players may be recalled when the minor league club has finished its season.

For playoffs, teams may recall an unlimited number of players, but is limited to only three recalled players on the active roster at once. That is, unless it recalled four players following the trade deadline, in which case it can keep all four for the remainder of the playoffs.

The Game would then need a Wavier Draft.
