Ai cutting prospects day after draft. Help
Hi guys, looking for tips and opinions on this.
My issue, I let the Ai manage my roster moves which unfortunately by default means it can cut and sign minor league players. I've noticed on a few occasions that my Ai manager has cut some pitchers i've drafted the day after the amateur draft. Which I find somewhat comical. But its not only a prospect being dropped after the draft, on occasion a player lasts a season then gets cut. I should mention, this all about Pitching. My Ai manager has a thing for cutting pitchers, it seems that 95% of the Ai's signing and cuts for my minor league teams involve pitching. For a little background on how my fictional league is set up... The league started in 1946, i am currently in 1951. There are 2 minor league teams. (AAA) (AA), the amateur draft is 10 rounds and it is set in october after the world series. Major league roster is 25, AAA roster max is 25 and the AA roster size cap is at 35. **Also note, that strategy in 1950's is to have 5 man starting rotation with 3 relievers who rarely get used.** So all that said, i've noticed over 5 years that my AA club doesn't follow the pitching strategy. My AA club usually only employs 5 pitchers as opposed to the strategy and recommended 8. At first i thought i had a lack of depth with pitching, so i signed a couple guys. Day after i sign them, my Ai cuts them. So i spent the 1948 draft getting pitchers, 5 of 10 picks. 2 of the selections were kept, 3 were cut. My first three picks were pitchers, and for some reason my Ai cut the 2nd round selection, who has now blossomed into a 3.5 star of his 4 star potential. (That would have made him the best of the 5 selections) There has been a few occasions where I've crowbarred a drafted pitcher back into the line up. A 1947 selection was cut, then i signed him, he was then cut again. in 1948 i signed him, mid season he was cut, end of season i signed him again... 1949 he finally stuck around and now in 1951 he has reached 2.5 stars of his 4 star potential playing AAA (In other words good enough for the Ai to stop cutting him) I am not sure what the Ai minor league management is doing or thinking here. I have a handful of fielders that the Ai is quite happy to retain and not play. A first basemen has spent 2 years in AA and has appeared in 0 games... If i increase the max AA roster to 40, will the Ai decide to keep 5 more fielders and not play them? I want them to keep my pitchers, and more importantly play and develop them. Especially since my AA team has little pitching talent, mostly half star or single star arms with no potential. Minor league Ai also seem to not like Relievers, no matter the age or skill or potential. I don't bother drafting a MR anymore, it feels like an automatic cut. (Back to the question) So what are your experiences, what are your tips to improve this situation? Personally I'm not skilled or dedicated enough to manage promotions and demotions, and if you leave this up to the Ai you also give him free reign on the minor league cuts and signing which i find really unfortunate. Try removing the cap on your AA level. I don't use minors, but when I've set a limit on my reserve rosters, I've seen teams draft studs in November and drop them before the season even starts.

Your lowest minor league level should not be less than 35, in your case the lowest level is AA.

Ai cutting prospects day after draft. Help
I suggest to never put a cap at the lowest level despite what the text says.
With that said, the AI will always dump garbage near every draft which consists of very late round picks from the previous year draft. In your case it seems to be a mixture of both the AI taking out the trash and cutting random players to make room for the roster limits. You can either set the limit to unlimited, raise the limit or lower the draft rounds. The first option is the safest. Last edited by SirMichaelJordan; 10-01-2015 at 11:05 AM. |

Would you guys know why the Ai manager doesn't follow the suggested strategy for the 1950's when it comes to Pitching? If this is because of the 35 limit roster size?
This only effects my AA league, as the majors and AAA have 5 starters and 3 relievers as is suggested and the strategy for that time period. Yet my AA league has gone with 3 starters 2 relievers, 4 starters 1 reliever... The most I've seen in my AA is 6 pitchers. So i am confused why its hurting its pitching rotation to keep a positional fielder who aren't playing a single game. Especially if injuries thin out the AA pitching even more. I can't 100% confirm but i think i've seen my AA club employ a CF as a reliever for part of a season where i was decimated with 4 pitching injuries at the major league level. |
