"Wagon Tongue" Keister?

Moderators, please forbear. ♫ Do not banish me, oh my darlings. ♪♪

There really was a "Wagon Tongue" Keister. I did not know this when I opened my temporarily suspended game (awaiting next patch). I opened up a player at random to check on something and saw that he was Bill "Wagon Tongue" Keister.

Stupid nicknames the game makes, I said. This is not even good enough for one of those dumb player name threads.

Oh, wait a minute. These are REAL players from 1901. I suspended the game just before the step where you clear out the real rosters, delete those players, and restock the game with fictional players.

Baseball Reference? Yes, confirming the nickname, too: Bill Keister Statistics and History | Baseball-Reference.com

As a matter of fact, "Wagon Tongue" came in #25 on Bleacher Report's 50 Worst Nicknames in Baseball History. And he's #1 on this list from a less well-known authority! *

You can learn a lot, playing this game!

* EDIT: Actually, he's number 4, being that he is on the top of the honorable mention list after the three "winners" with really, really "ugly" nicknames.

It is a reference that has kind of went out with the silent moving picture. So, he would have a forked tongue today?

A Wagon Tongue is the the bar on the front of a wagon that you use to hitch it to something.

Wagon Tongue, as a nickname, is a play on words with "Wagging Tongue", meaning he liked to talk a lot.

I'm ignoring msupoke (Sure, now I take the high road, eh? What a hypocrite I am. ) in favor of asking you whether you know that for sure and particularly about, uh, Keister?

What else do we know about this guy? I can't find anything about him except Baseball Reference, bad baseball nickname lists, and this intriguing item from a sports memorabilia web site. This HAS to be his bat.

EDIT: Ah, you're right again, Questdog. The second screen print is from some obscure listing on Google Books.

And he did not set the all-time mark for lowest fielding percentage by a shortstop in 1901. He set the lowest mark anyone has had since 1901.

All-time lowest fielding percentage records are like complete games records; whatever year you set as the cut-off for "modern" records, the record will be made within a few seasons at the most.
