Simming Half Innings Better Than Playing Them Out???
So I'm fairly new, which means I'm going off a very small sample size, but I've noticed a little...quirk, let's call it.
I generally play out every game. Sometimes though if I want get to a certain stopping point (finish a series/a month/get to the draft or ASB), and have limited time to get there, I'll sim half an inning at a time. Usually only on the pitching side, and only until my starter has thrown around 80 pitchers (then I take over so I can manage the bullpen). But I've noticed that the AI is super efficient with my starters in terms of pitch count, averaging 10 or fewer pitches per inning. Of my team's 5 CGSO's (in mid june), 2 were a result of the AI taking over, despite the fact that I sim only maybe 5% of the time. Now it doesn't always work out this way. I've had it where my starters gave up 3 ER in 2 innings, averaging 20 pitchers/inning as well, but it seems like when my pitchers are "on", I'm better off leaving things in the hands of the AI. Is this just my ineptitude at pitching tactics? Or have others noticed this too? |

Silver lining. Based on his report it looks like the long standing 1/2 inning sim bug has finally been squashed. In the past, I remember folk complaining that the AI would leave pitchers in to get crushed when you simmed 1/2 innings at a time.

That's what I figured (small sample+confirmation bias), but I thought I'd ask in case others had seen the same thing.
I forget what I have set the AI manager to do, but it should be pretty much the same as I do when doing One-Pitch (I don't mess with the player tactics). I never use pitch around anymore as it's never been successful when I've tried it, and IBB only very rarely (mostly with my groundballer middle reliever, rather than any starter). Yeah. Never seen a starter give up more than 2 ER in an inning when simmed for a 1/2 inning, and looking at the Play By Play (or whatever it's called) afterwards, the results always seem reasonable. As a player outer, I am concerned now that we are manager that when we sim out a half inning that is it the bench coach making the call on the pitcher removal, double switch, or fielding replacement. I just do not trust my bench coach that much, it is why I am in charge!
