Slow runnings

I purchased the game through steam. When I start it up, it takes like 15 minutes for the opening game screen to pop up. Pushing on one of the buttons takes 5-10 seconds before anything happens. I ran OOTP15 on the same laptop with no issues at all. Does anyone else have this issue?

I have the same issue. The game attempted to load for about 10 minutes, then froze. I'd play once previously, and it was incredibly slow. I was kind of hoping it was a more common problem, making it more likely there's a solution. Looks like I'm just on my own instead.

Mac or PC
The system requirements for OOTP are pretty minor.
1) Have you defraged?
2) Do you have any other programs open? OOTP does hog memory so other programs can be a problem.
3) Anti virus? When mine is running real time protection I get a serious performance hit.
4) Have you looked through you Processes that are running on start up?

I have old computers and they all run the game fine. My best guess is that you have a memory conflict or too many background programs running and they are conflicting.

Everything else on my computer, including much more intense games on Steam (Civ 5, for example), run just fine. So it's got to be something specific to OOTP on Steam.

I've run the game on Steam and from the OOTP Website. Steam runs incredibly slower. It's not your PC, it's (just my theory) having Steam run in the background.

Although STEAM is a great way to get the game out there, this is one of the reasons I buy the game directly from OOTP Developments. I have never had these problems and I have always run OOTP on older versions of windows.
