Crushed to Awesome!!

In the World Series as the Pirates vs the Rays.

Leading 3-2 in the series and up 6-3 in game 6 at home. It's the top of the 9th and my All-star, 43/45 in save opportunities, closer is on to seal it....

Boom he gives up 5 runs in the 9th. Two errors, two walks and a two out, 3-2, 9 pitch AB grand slam. I'm crushed!! Scared to play game 7. How can my team respond? We're dead. And starting game 7 for us is a rookie, who in his last 13 regular season starts was 2-5 with an ERA near 5. We're doomed...

7-1 victory!! Best OOTP moment I've had so far. And thank heavens I was putting my daughter to bed when my closer gave up the Grand Slam!!

Baseball at its finest. Stuff happens:
Quote:
Rivera has blown just five of his 47 postseason save opportunities, but four of them came in situations in which converting the save would have clinched a series the Yankees ultimately went on to lose (the 1997 Division Series, 2001 World Series and two in the 2004 American League Championship Series).
Your thread title resonates with me in a broader sense. I am still shell-shocked from last night when my team followed up a 100-62 season with a 60-102 nightmare. Awesome to Crushed!!

You were putting your daughter to bed when your team was on the brink of clinching the WS? Why didn't you pause it?

Explain? That's a massive swing. Injuries, FA losses...

Injuries to two top starters (out of four; year is 1906) and one key bullpen guy. Subpar performances at the plate by nearly everybody in the lineup. Never seen anything like it. Everybody's mad about the team record and some clowns are also aggravated by not being starters.

Last year, everything meshed. This year, disaster. Never seen anything like it - did I say that already?

Hmmm. Two team leaders left; one retired and the other is one of the starters who was out for eight months. Wonder if that was it?

Interesting you mention that. I was thinking if that had an impact in why my team won game 7 after that crushing defeat. My team has great leadership all over. Whether it impacts it or not, it's a feature that has added depth to the experience.

And I'm not sure how I would respond going -38 in wins year over year. That's quite a challenge. Would love to hear about the next year.

I bet you leadership does have an influence on bouncing back after defeat. Even if only indirectly: Good leadership promotes good mood which promotes good performance in general.

I was , of course. I felt like firing the manager and coaches and if I were the owner, I would have fired me, maybe! But, I have those incriminating photos of him which make me unfireable . . .

Though I did clean out house somewhat. Some of the crybabies who hated the team record (while batting, say, .205) are gone and the other crybabies who wanted to start are either doing so, traded, or demoted. Plus my SP's are back (but who knows if they are what they were in the past?). We'll see. Thanks for taking an interest.

This is the only one suitable to post here. That's him and his wife. He's the one on the left.

FYI, my All-star closer, who blew the three run lead in game 6 is off to a terrible start this year. It's like his confidence is destroyed after that game. He's turning into Jose Mesa.

Loving the realism!!
