Mount Rushmore for each of the 30 MLB franchises

The MLBNetwork announced a cool contest this morning called the Franchise Four. Let's hear it, who's on your "Mount Rushmore" for each franchise? We're talking all-timers here, and for now I'm putting Expos with Nationals, Senators with Twins etc which may not sit well with fans of these current franchises, but after all they are all part of the same franchise. I'll take a shot at kicking it off:

Arizona: Randy Johnson, Brandon Webb, Luis Gonzalez, Curt Schilling

Atlanta: Hank Aaron, Kid Nichols, Warren Spahn, Eddie Mathews

Baltimore: Cal Ripken Jr., Brooks Robinson, Jim Palmer, Eddie Murray

Boston: Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, Roger Clemens, Wade Boggs

ChiCubs: Cap Anson, Ron Santo, Ryne Sandberg, Ernie Banks

ChiSox: Luke Appling, Ted Lyons, Frank Thomas, Eddie Collins

Cincinnati: Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Barry Larkin, Frank Robinson

Cleveland: Nap Lajoie, Tris Speaker, Bob Feller, Lou Boudreau

Colorado: Todd Helton, Larry Walker, Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzalez

Detroit: Ty Cobb, Al Kaline, Charlie Gehringer, Lou Whitaker

Houston: Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio, Jose Cruz Sr., Cesar Cedeno

Kansas City: George Brett, Kevin Appier, Amos Otis, Willie Wilson

LA Angels: Chuck Finley, Jim Fregosi, Tim Salmon, Nolan Ryan

LA Dodgers: Don Drysdale, Pee Wee Reese, Duke Snider, Jackie Robinson

Miami: Hanley Ramirez, Josh Johnson, Luis Castillo, Giancarlo Stanton

Milwaukee: Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, Ryan Braun, Teddy Higuera

Minnesota: Walter Johnson, Rod Carew, Harmon Killebrew, Sam Rice

NY Mets: Tom Seaver, David Wright, Dwight Gooden, Jerry Koosman

NY Yankees: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio

Oakland: Eddie Plank, Rickey Henderson, Jimmie Foxx, Lefty Grove

Philadelphia: Mike Schmidt, Robin Roberts, Steve Carlton, Chase Utley

Pittsburgh: Honus Wagner, Roberto Clemente, Paul Waner, Arky Vaughan

San Diego: Tony Gwynn, Dave Winfield, Jake Peavy, Trevor Hoffman

Seattle: Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez, Ichiro Suzuki, Felix Hernandez

San Francisco: Willie Mays, Barry Bonds, Mel Ott, Christy Mathewson

St. Louis: Stan Musial, Rogers Hornsby, Bob Gibson, Albert Pujols

Tampa Bay: Evan Longoria, Ben Zobrist, Carl Crawford, David Price

Texas: Ivan Rodriguez, Rafael Palmeiro, Buddy Bell, Ian Kinsler

Toronto: Dave Stieb, Roy Halladay, Tony Fernandez, Carlos Delgado

Washington: Gary Carter, Tim Raines, Andre Dawson, Steve Rogers

This is not an easy exercise. Keeping it to four is really tough, particularly for the oldest franchises. Let's see whatcha got. Also, feel free to leave off PED guys, gamblers, racists, and whatever other types make you feel the player doesn't deserve the honour. It's your Mount Rushmore. You do as you please.

I don't mind Walter Johnson; but definitely not Sam Rice.

Walter Johnson
Rod Carew
Harmon Killebrew
Kirby Puckett

Take out Walter Johnson, and Tony Olivia jumps up into his spot.

The excellent site High Heat Stats has been doing this for more than a year. Check it out.

Utley? No way.

Ed Delahanty would be the fourth. I could even see a case made for Grover Cleveland Alexander over Delahanty, but I'd go with Ed.

ChiSox: Luke Appling, Ted Lyons, Frank Thomas, Eddie Collins

Would have put Sammy in there at one point, I think either Fergie or Dawson should be there over Anson.

While Appling does have the #'s over anyone else i might name and being the only White Sox player to play 20 seasons with the White Sox and played his entire career with the Sox i think Fisk, Aparicio, Shoeless Joe or Baines should replace him. Billy Pierce, Mark Buehrle or even Sale at this point should replace Lyons. All 4 do have the stats over the ones i named but not all 4 are all time fan favs.

I'm torn on Sammy, but even without steroids these guys may have the edge.

It's not really close IMO.

No love for Joe Carter?

As for Washington's Mount, they dont' want Montreal's history, they dont get their stars. Which out of Haper and Strasburg leaves their mountain quite blank?

For Montreals totally agree with the first three, but Steve Rogers seems a bit shaky. Andres Galaragga? Rusty Staub? Someone else?

I'd take Jose Vidro, Tim Wallach, Vlad Guerrero or Dennis Martinez over Rogers. I agree with Carter, Dawson and Raines.

Agreed - Tony was such a likeable player when he was with the Jays. Was glad he was brought back in 93 to be part of that Championship.

Sorry, Ape shouldn't be here. Frank White would be a better choice. Dudes got so many Gold Gloves. Ape was solid while he was here, but he didn't really pitch for any great Royals teams, and he wasn't stuck really pitching for the Royals dark ages teams.

Don't have a an issue with A.O. but I think Quiz was more important then he. Also, Busby, Leonard, and Randa might be better fits.

I would go:
Brett
White
Quiz
Sabes

But then that's why lists are fun.

This kinda process really makes you appreciate all the great players that have donned a Cardinals cap. It's obvious we should be given an exception and permitted more than 4 spots on our mountain. We can take one of the Cubs, they won't use all of 'em anyways.

Detroit---Cobb, Greenberg, Kaline and Trammell

Wish we could do some kind of half face thing with Gehringer/Greenberg and Trammell/Whitaker
