Independent Leagues not honouring contract extensions?

I set up a GM-only career in a "standard" game with all leagues enabled, and started out with a team in the Can-Am league. I had four guys who weren't going to have their contracts auto-renew, and I signed extensions with three of them (two around mid-season, and one that was finalized shortly before free-agent filings). All three became free agents anyway.

Now I'm screwed because they were my three best non-pitchers, and owner of the team has gutted my budget (including no money for FA) despite turning a profit the previous year.

So, my question is: Is this a bug in terms of the game not recognizing extensions, or is it a bug in terms of the game allowing me to negotiate extensions in a league that doesn't allow them?

(As a side note, I couldn't negotiate extensions with any of my staff, either. But I didn't try until after the regular season, and once they left none of them would listen to offers. I figured at the time that they just all thought they were too good for the CAAA and didn't think much about it until the thing happened with the players.)

I just had a very similar experience. GM only mode in the independent Frontier League. Signed several contract extensions with best players less than a month before Free Agency Filings. Received all confirmations on signed contracts. Now everyone is a Free Agent. It doesn't make sense to me at all. Same problems with the staff too.

The Frontier League, at least, has contract extensions. See, e. g., Transactions | Frontier League (June 18th). If the game doesn't honor them, that must be a bug.

Check you league settings, towards the bottom of the Financials tab. See if extensions are allowed.
