Clearly incorrect.

This was also v15 and probably didnt have any of the mods in it but I still found it rather entertaining.

This actually happens because the facegen file in the AIO mod for Houston's Chris Carter is Chris V. Carter. Which is what his name was in OOTP15. It's now changed so it's using the wrong Chris Carter file. Easily corrected by renaming the appropriate file.

The game does not see names or guesses the race of the player. I have always had to go and make Jackie Robinson the proper race in my 1940s re-dos. I think it would be a lot of work to code each player with a pre-set race code in the game.
And of course, you have the mixes of Caribbean, some are white, some are black, some are a mix.

I have the same issue, but I think since the game has him as African it made him South African, because I don't anywhere else in Africa where there are white people. His race is correct, just not the color of his skin

Will there ever be an addition where the game knows if the player is actually, well, black, white, latino, Asian, etc.?

I think that has to do with historical players. Modern players have their facial type set, some of the might just have the wrong one. For Latino players, the way the Hispanic ethnicity works in the game, there will always be wrong facial types since it includes black and white facegens.
