Assistant General Manager

When reading the latest Road to Release I noticed a new personal title in the game. What is the role of Assistant GM.

It's just the relabeled GM when a human takes over the team. Sometimes the current GM quits (if he does not want to be an assistant) so you need a new one, sometimes he stays. He handles stuff you do not want to and assign to him in the team control options, i.e. trading or drafting.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

So if your assistant GM quits, can you hire a new one and will you be able to see their strengths/weaknesses (i.e. good at trading, bad at drafting, etc.)?

current GM should bump up to Team President and stay no matter what so they stay in the organization.

Staff doesn't quit. They play until their contract expires or you fire them.

Trading isn't a strength/weakness. Every trade is a risk in every sport. Sometimes they work out, sometimes they don't. The fact a GM is making trades should tell you he's trying to improve the team.

Same with drafting - how many times has a 5 tool prospect been drafted that hasn't turned out? Many, many times. Does that make a guy "Bad" at drafting?

+1. Seems a little odd that a GM would voluntarily take a demotion. They should either get a promotion (even if it essentially makes them disappear from the game) or take a job with another team.

Wait ... so can I take over the Phillies, keep Ruben Amaro in the game and just assign him to clean toilets and launder jockstraps?

Best. Game. Ever.

Right but after they quit or fired we'll still need an assistant GM. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. What I meant was, when we are hiring a new assistant GM can we see their stats like "Tends to draft power pitchers", or "Prefers contact hitters", or if we want them to take over the accounting aspects of the game we would be interested in ones that have stats like "Experience at budgeting", etc. Sort of like what has been shown for coaches and managers thus far.

Some GMs will be willing to stay around as an assistant, some will want to leave for greener pastures. So sorry, Amaro may not want to stick around as your lackey.

Commissioner mode, my freind. Commissioner mode.

He should be glad. In OOTP 15 he unretired as a player and signed on with the Dutch league, where he hit .075 and set the record for HBP.

Without saying too much (NDA) there will be a description that gives you an overview of the type staff member he is.

Maybe he prefers to build around veterans, or maybe he focuses on pitching more than hitting. That sort of thing.

A lot will depend on experience too - if the guy's inexperienced, you probably won't know a whole lot about him since he doesn't have a track record yet. More experienced, more info.
