Freak Injuries Really Do Occur IRL

I always kinda get annoyed about OOTP for the freak injuries that happen every now and then. You'll see something crazy and be like noooo way that happens IRL or at least happens very often.

Well apparently OOTP is right, and I'm wrong. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-bi...155517777.html

Just follow the Blue Jays. Some say they are slightly more prone to the "freak injury" than other teams. They can usually be tracked for at least one per season.

Saunders hurts because the guy didn't even get settled with the team yet! And there was Maicer Izturis last season too: Blue Jays' Maicer Izturis has torn knee ligament - CBC Sports - Baseball - MLB

Maybe they should hire new groundskeepers...

Right?

AA said there's been talk over the years of a crater in the outfield and they'll have it checked out. NOW they'll have it checked out? This wasn't a priority when they first heard of it? I seriously wonder about this organization sometimes...

I remember when storylines first came out the devs asked people to list freak injuries that were occurring in real life. The kitchen knife story line came from an Astros player. I think it was a minor leaguer. I am not sure if Kaz Matsui's anal fissures made it in the story lines or not.

Just got a new one today. Strained Achilles running from the police! I am debating whether to cut the guy.

while shagging fly balls in the outfield.
...that, that means a whole different thing in the UK. If this was a British journalist, I'd say Saunders deserved it.

As a Jays fan this one infuriated me. How on earth do you let a sprinkler head be in the outfield where million dollar pro players are running around. There goes our replacement for Melky.

Mere million dollar players don't matter much, but some really valuable guys are out there, too.

This leads me to wonder whether OOTP should add head groundskeeper to team personnel. The one the Jays have is apparently a half-star.

I forgot who said it but it remind of one of the quotations OOTP cites. "A good grounds keeper can be a tenth man on the field."

Isn't that about cutting the grass along the 1b/3b lines just right for bunts?

What are the flukiest Spring Training injuries? | SportsonEarth.com : Cy Brown Article
There are these Spring Training injuries too. Of course the Michael Saunder's injury was listed, but there are others that are just as strange. Chris Sale just injured his foot while unloading his truck in real life as well.

I saw this on MLB.com by the way. There is some good stuff on there, obviously.

That isn't a freak injury, just very unlucky. Bunt drills are a normal part of spring training and injuries happen.

More awful news for the Jays. Think it's time AA steps up and makes a deal for a proven starter. Joey Bats and EE only have so much time left.

Haven't run into this one in OOTP yet (at least explicitly), but I wouldn't be surprised if this exists somewhere in their list of possible (oddball) injuries:

Quote:
DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Pillar is being sidelined -- by a sneeze.

Pillar is expected to miss a week to 10 days with an oblique strain sustained while sneezing on Saturday morning.

It's there. I've seen it.

Note to self: Princess Kenny was really off-putting.

Joel Zumaya threw out his shoulder playing Guitar Hero..

Also just this last year the Lions Tight End severely sprained his ankle trying to rush his peeing puppy outside and missed like 4 games.

Do they ever! Jonathon Lucroy is one of my favorite players. This happened in 2012.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-bi...145901583.html

Looking to have a great season (his stats up to that point are in the article). While looking for a sock under a hotel bed, his wife accidently knocked the suitcase off the bed which landed on his hand. His poor wife. People were quite angry, but sometimes crazy things happen.

In my semi-fictional MLB league, the 2016 season is shaping up to be a cursed season. A bunch of weird injuries happened between the start of the preseason and spring training. C Bryant Aragon tore his labrum while moving furniture, RP Cesar Jimenez strained his back while installing a light fixture, and C Max Pentecost got scalded by hot water. Then after the season started, the injuries got weirder. My starting LF, Joc Pederson, injured his forearm after slipping in the shower. A couple weeks later, Yu Darvish strained his hamstring after falling off the back of a pickup truck. Astros 2B Jose Marquez cut himself while peeling vegetables. Reds SP Tony Cingrani electrocuted himself while installing an electrical outlet cover and suffered a mild burn. Exactly two weeks after him, Brandon McCarthy severely sprained his index finger while doing home repairs. Then Colorado RF Kyle Parker pulled a Cingrani the day before the amateur draft, and my starting C, Kyle Schwarber, pulled a Pederson a couple days after that.

I can't wait to see what the rest of the season has in store. . .
