Teams opt not to make draft picks?
Long-running historical "alternate universe" league imported from several older versions of OOTP. I have my first rookie draft with OOTP15, and some strange stuff happens.
First three rounds go as expected. Then in the 4th, teams start opting not to make a selection. Then in Round 5, everyone starts picking again. Has anyone ever seen this? I'll paste Round 4 and Round 5 below (I inserted spaces where the missing picks are, but in the draft log they're just skipped over). Round 4 Round 4, Pick 1 - New York Mets: MR Arnold Umbach Round 4, Pick 2 - Washington Senators: MR John Gelnar Round 4, Pick 3 - Washington Senators: MR Clay Carroll Round 4, Pick 4 - Los Angeles Angels: MR Jack Aker Round 4, Pick 5 - Chicago White Sox: 3B Johnny Werhas Round 4, Pick 6 - San Francisco Giants: MR Bill Kelso Round 4, Pick 7 - Chicago Cubs: MR Dave Dowling Round 4, Pick 8 - Cleveland Indians: MR Pete Mikkelsen Round 4, Pick 9 - New York Yankees: MR Don Loun Round 4, Pick 10 - Milwaukee Braves: RF Archie Moore Round 4, Pick 11 - Detroit Tigers: C Joe McCabe Round 4, Pick 14 - Kansas City Athletics: 2B Bill Bethea Round 4, Pick 16 - St. Louis Cardinals: MR Dan Schneider Round 4, Pick 18 - Pittsburgh Pirates: MR Frank Bork Round 4, Pick 19 - Baltimore Orioles: SP Dennis Ribant Round 4, Pick 20 - Philadelphia Phillies: LF Elvio Jimenez Round 5 Round 5, Pick 1 - New York Mets: MR Tom Kelley Round 5, Pick 2 - Houston Colt .45's: MR Dave Eilers Round 5, Pick 3 - Washington Senators: MR Gary Kroll Round 5, Pick 4 - Los Angeles Angels: MR Ed Connolly Jr Round 5, Pick 5 - Chicago White Sox: MR Dick Estelle Round 5, Pick 6 - San Francisco Giants: C Mike J Ryan Round 5, Pick 7 - Chicago Cubs: RF Willie Crawford Round 5, Pick 8 - Cleveland Indians: 1B Costen Shockley Round 5, Pick 9 - New York Yankees: MR Tom Parsons Round 5, Pick 10 - Milwaukee Braves: MR Lee Gregory Round 5, Pick 11 - Detroit Tigers: MR Bob Meyer Round 5, Pick 12 - Boston Red Sox: MR Bill Wakefield Round 5, Pick 13 - Cincinnati Reds: MR Darrell Sutherland Round 5, Pick 14 - Kansas City Athletics: C Jerry May Round 5, Pick 15 - Los Angeles Dodgers: MR Pete Craig Round 5, Pick 16 - St. Louis Cardinals: MR Ron Locke Round 5, Pick 17 - Minnesota Twins: MR Johnnie Seale Round 5, Pick 18 - Pittsburgh Pirates: 3B Bill Southworth Round 5, Pick 19 - Baltimore Orioles: MR Ed Sukla Round 5, Pick 20 - Philadelphia Phillies: MR Sterling Slaughter So why did Boston, Cincinnati, the Dodgers, and Twins all choose not to make selections in the 4th round? I didn't even know that was possible. I checked each team's rosters and they have plenty of budget room and they aren't approaching roster limits or anything. Has anyone else seen this happen? Thanks. |

I've never seen this happen in OOTP; however, it does happen in real life. In real life, a team can skip their selection. The caveat is that once the team skips its selection, they can no longer make selections in the draft. It's fairly common once teams get into the mid-30s of the 40-round draft.

I'll be curious to see if it happens again next season. But I play out all my games so it'll be awhile before that comes around.
Maybe I'll explain it away with a story - maybe those four teams were stripped of their 4th round pick for cheating in some manner (corking bats, using a foreign substance on the balls, deflating the balls ) Boston was one of the skipped teams.
