Akron has illegal number of players - but there is no Akron

My game is stuck because it says "Akron has an illegal number of players (0)."

I have incomplete minor leagues on.

Also, there is no team in Akron. There are Major League teams and one minor league (AAA level). None of those teams is in Akron.

What the hell?

Further investigation reveals that not only is there a 16-team Major League and a 16-team AAA league, but the database page is telling me there's a third league and 48 teams total. I can't find those other 16 teams anywhere.

CSV dump tells me there's a short season A league somewhere but it shows up nowhere in any menu or dropdown.

Just purge your database.(make a backup of your saved game first!!) Most likely you missed a setting when you set up your league. Purging your database will/should get rid of those ghost teams.
To purge:
Start ootp and load your saved game. Click the Game tab and click "game settings". On that page click Database. On the database page click the Database Tools dropdown (Top right of page) and click "Purge deleted records from database". Follow the directions on the popup and click ok. The process can take a few minutes so be patient.
When done, restart ootp and check everything to make sure all is ok.

Theoretically it should only delete things associated with the team(s) it deletes but, I honestly don't know as I always purge before I startup any custon league. Just make a copy of the saved game, before purging. (it's an absolute must that one does this)..that way if anything one cannot live with gets deleted, you can always go back to the original.

The old problem happened when you changed league structure but did not regenerate a schedule. Was there ever an Akron that you delete and maybe didn't generate a schedule for?

I don't know if this applies but it can happen. Lets say you modify the Cuban National Series from game defualt to have 2 subleagues as it is in real life. In addition lets say you delete 2 teams from one subleague. If you don't redo the schedule the game sees say Mayabeque is supposed to play but since there is no Mayabeque the team can't find players for it.

Not sure that is what happened to you but that is a very old problem that happens occasionally.

I had this problem happen before (not OOTP 15, so I don't know if it's identical, but it did drive me absolutely batty at the time) when I unknowingly added a minor league to my minor league. So my Triple A league had its own minor league with teams affiliated with the Triple A league.

You may want to jump in to the minor leagues and see if any of them have their own minor league. That could be the problem there.

I added a AAA league in the offseason. From what I understand with the CSV dump, this short season league appeared in June of the following year. I never added another league after the AAA add.

I'm having the same issue today. I'm in the year 2193 and finally got around to adding A, AA leagues which i added in January. Only problem is that it said "illegal number of players" for the 'A' league teams once their season started even though ghost players box was checked off. So i deleted the two leagues and now it still thinks those teams exist when they do not. Can't continue on now. The game still see's all those teams in the deleted leagues as active. And I did not add minor leagues to minor leagues

Professional baseball in the year 2193 is no more. It's a sad day.

EDIT: Also noticed that "Enable Compensation [for lost draft picks]" is unchecked in my game but the game does not see it that way...compensation is still given out. Related or not, I'm not too sure. Could the most recent update of introduced a disabling options glitch for preexisting leagues which includes deleting? Sounds like a longshot.

I'll mess around with the suggestions in this thread. Turns out I screwed up a setting when I created the league so I'm not happy with it anyway, making it disposable for me. I'll try and see if anything works before I delete it, though.

I've yet to find the solution or quickfix; hopefully you can get it!

This happened again to me on another league when I tried to add a short season A league in the offseason. Got all the way to June and got an illegal number of players error despite having the option set to allow ghost players. This angers me to no end.

When you're building a complicated league, it pays to save your intermediate builds along the way as templates with version numbers. You should then save the final version of the league before you start playing it as both a template and a QuickStart.

Don't ask me how I learned to do this.

this happens to me sometimes when I add a minor league. it creates a minor league for the minor league. Stupid right? To fix it, all you have to do is un-affiliate the minor league(that has the minor league) from the major league. Then the phantom minor league will show and you can delete it. I hope this all makes sense.

Be sure to keep note of which teams are affiliated with each other because when you re-affiliate to your ML, the team affiliations will be blank.

Yeah, I know. I thought the problem was with adding a rookie league, so after having no problems adding AAA, AA and A leagues, I thought I'd be okay with a S A league. Lesson learned.

As it stands, it looks like 15 has trouble adding anything but full-season minor leagues after league creation. Hopefully 16 won't have that problem.
