Individual pitch ratings: velocity, movement, control, and command
1) "Movement" should be renamed "Command," and "Stuff" should be renamed "Movement"
As I understand it, in OOTP, Stuff = strikeouts Movement = HR (maybe also 2B, and if not it should) Control = BB/HBP/WP I'm not sure what the velocity ratings do. But IRL, what people call "stuff," and especially the abilty to make people swing and miss is mostly velocity+movement. I don't know what it means in OOTP when I draft a kid who throws 100 MPH and has good movement, but has a low "stuff" rating. What helps prevent hard-hit balls is his ability to not merely get the ball over the plate, but put an unhittable pitch exactly where he wants it. This skill is called "command." See this: Baseball Prospectus | Sobsequy: Finding the Zone Thus, pitchers should have four ratings: Velocity + Movemement = strikeouts Command = Hard-hit balls/HR Control = BB/HBP/WP 2) Instead of an overall rating for each pitch, each pitcher should have specific V/M/C/C for it. (If there is an overall rating, it should be purely a derived one). That would accurately reflect the way scouts/coaches talk about pitchers: each pitch is a seperate tool, and the fact that you have great command and control with your fastball does not mean you can put your curve wherever you want it.
