How Do You Get Rid of the Font With The Diacritical Marks for Hispanic Names?
How do you change the font that uses accent marks for Hispanic Names?
Is there a place in the game to make a simple change... or does it involve importing new files (which can pose a severe problem for an old codger like me)? I am still pretty technically-challenged, so please be very basic with your instructions. Although it's amazing how much you guys have taught me over the past 12 years... I now know, can identify and can use such highly-advanced computer equipment like "a cursor" and "a mouse"... I remember OOTPB member, dbacks. posted his "how to download logos" instructions visually with pictures and that included identifying a "cursor" and gave its function. Several of you had done likewise for me over the past 13 years. Pictures are great for old codgers like me that can't understand and has great difficulty with computerese and technology. Please list each instructions step-by-step. Don't assume that everyone is bless with computer intuition... I think and hope... cross my fingers...that I can do it without pictures now. ![]() Thank you for your help. Incidentally, all by myself and without any technical instruction, yesterday I DOWNLOADED AND INSTALLED logos, and home and away uniforms for my new Dynasty League... the State Line League... a semipro league set beginning in 1948 using ex-high school and college stars, mainly near the Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee state lines. Teams are located in the northwest corner of Alabama. I will research the Muscle Shoals area high school stars, semi-pro players and University of Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Vandy college stars of the 40's, 50s, 60s, 70s, etc. I grew up in the Florence and Sheffield areas in the 40s and 50s, when the Florence Raiders, Reynolds Ramblers, Russellville Travelers and Monsanto Maulers played in a very talented semi-pro league... the Raiders occasionally drew 10,000 fans. It was a wonderful time... no TV and air conditioning (which had a lot to do with killing the great minor leagues and changed them to just developmental leagues without any great veteran players and career minor leaguers)... and the price of admission to a baseball game was just 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for kids (toddlers were admitted free)... cokes were only 5 cents, popcorn and candy was just 10 cents and a hot dog was just 25 cents. Amazingly the Caps and Jerseys installed beautifully and looked gorgeously yesterday... thanks to the great talents and creativity of modders rocknfire7, Padreman, Honorable Pawn and Isedelyod. I will do my best.
1. Backup your original names files, which includes the first_names.txt and names.txt files in your OOTP Baseball 15 database folder. This is usually located in C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 15\database 2. Then use a text editor like Notepad in Windows to open one of the two files. 3. To find a letter with a diacritical mark that you want to replace, scroll down your file until you get to the Hispanic names. These are the names that end with a number 1 at the end of their line in the file. 4. Highlight one of the letters with a diacritical mark that you want to replace, such as á, and right-click it to copy it. 5. Click on Edit from the Notepad top menu and choose 'Replace'. Right-click and paste the letter, such as á, into the 'Find what' box and then type 'a' into the 'Replace with' box. 6. Click the Replace All button. This will replace all instances of á in your file with the letter a. 7. Keep repeating this for all letters you want to replace, and you may also need to copy and paste capitalized versions of these same letters, like Á, and replace them with capitalized letters like 'A'. 8. To ensure that everything has been properly replaced, do some searches again for your letters to make sure that nothing comes up in the file. 9. Then save your file, open the other names files, and repeat the same process. As an alternative, you can check out this thread: Questdog's Names for OOTP 15. He has downloadable files with the diacritical marks removed, but make sure to read his thread to understand how his changes will affect your game. You should be able to download the file from OOTPMods.com as well. |

The easiest way is to use Use Questdogs name mod.
The best part is that his name sets totally make the game a million times better.

No problem. I wanted to make sure to provide the instructions because some people might prefer to create their own custom names files rather than use Questdog's.
In my case, I created my own ethnicity and name files to create two distinct Hispanic ethnic groups and also add a lot of surnames that were missing from the U.S. and that I configured based on actual census data. OOTP doesn't include many of the less common English surnames that are actually measurable in the population, and it also does not properly reflect the most common Spanish and Chinese surnames that are sometimes found in combination with English personal names in real life (e.g. Eric Chavez or Bruce Chen). The bigger issue that I find is with the Hispanic ethnicity, which lumps all Spanish-speaking countries together with the same racial distributions, and this is completely inaccurate. So I maintain two or three Hispanic ethnicity settings based on actual racial and demographic data so that Hispanic players from the U.S. or Mexico have real-life racial distribution that is distinct from places like the Dominican Republic and Venezuela, which are very different. |
