Worthy of the Hall
Opinions on Pedro? He is 3rd all time in my league in Wins, the other 2 are both still hanging on. Oh by the way, until his last season, he never was on the DL. He missed a total of 2 weeks his last year, so, in terms of being a horse for the rotation, Pedro was. He also finished (3rd) in the Pitcher of the Year award in 1909.

I think we need some more context. Where does he rank all-time in some of those career stats? Can you share more of the "leaderboard appearances" info so I can get a better sense of where he stood compared to his peers?
edit: I'd also like to see the career of Chet Combs, just out of curiosity. Especially since it was a 1 for 1 straight trade. Last edited by atlbravos; 12-31-2014 at 12:03 PM. |

Quote:
His ERA/Wins and his WAR should get him in. During his peak his 1909-1919 he never had a WAR lower than 7...which is outstanding. He deserves to be in.

Based solely on his numbers, I'd say yes. It does strike me as odd, though, that he won only one Cy Young Award during his career (somebody must have had a monster year in 1913 to beat Villanueva's 32-6 record and 1.86 ERA). That has me wondering about the level of competition. On paper, he looks great, but if there were five or six pitchers who were even better than he was, that would mean he was more like a George Mullin than an Eddie Plank.
I also wonder what settings you had for your league. Were you using the historical settings for those years or something else? He seems to have had more strikeouts that I'd expect for a pitcher of that era. For instance, he has about the same number of innings pitched as Pete Alexander, but about 400 more strikeouts. |

I am using historical stats, in a fictional league. Started in 1901 and been going ever since. He won the Silver Slinger award the year he went 32-6 (Cy Young). Here is a photo of the settings from the just completed 1924 season.

Here is Chet Combs the guy I traded for Pedro. At the time, Utah was a win now mode.

Since you started in 1901, do you mind telling me some of the individual highs for triples you've had?

I think he's in. He wasn't just long-serving, he was also good, as the career WAR, WHIP, ERA, and (to a lesser degree, wins) shows.
Those early 20th century pitchers sure are something, aren't they, for durability! |

Gomes #1 in all time career wins, Thompson #2. Pedro is #3. The #4 is at 308, and #5 is at 307. On a side note. Gomes played most of his career with the Miami Gators. The Gators are like the Yankees in my league. They have won 6 World Series, and been to the World Series 10 times. With 16 playoff appearances in the league's 24 year history. As a result, Gomes also has 3 WS rings to go with his other impressive stats.

All of those guys look like HOFers to me...
Definitely a pitching era, but those numbers would look good if you dropped any of those guys in any time period.

Here are screen shots of the Triples in a Season and in a Career. Rangel will probably be the all time Triples leader, as he is only 28 (He started his FABT at 17 yoa, and probably has missed a grand total of a month in his 11 years so far.)
