Help with trading

Hi
I know that players can have bad seasons but more often than not when I trade a player, the one I get nearly always goes from a good batting ave to a poor one. At this point I ship them out thinking it was a bad trade on my part.
I got one guy at the moment who is 29 and I have to decide whether to keep him or not as his arbitration is coming up. Last year he hit 16 hr with an ave of .299, for me he hits 2 hr with an ave of .218.
What would you guys do with him?
