use complete coaching system - financials turned off

Does anybody use the complete coaching system with financials turned off? If I do this does that mean the coaches are essentially locked into a "lifetime" contract? Curious to hear back from anyone who plays OOTP with these settings.

I do. What happens is that the AI assigns different length contracts to the various coaches on your team (it also lists salaries by the way, which are meaningless, though somewhat interesting). Then when an individual coach's contract is up, you receive a league e-mail saying that particular coaching spot is now empty. Sometimes you can re-hire the same coach, other times he outright retires and is gone.

You can go to the list of available personnel for the whole league, change the pull-down menu to what you're looking for, hire somebody, and assign a contract length, which is meaningless but you still have to. From then on, you'll have that coach forever, unless you fire him.

So that I don't have so much advantage in my historical leagues, I always go for coaches with just OK or Average ratings.

If the complete coaching system is on with financials turned off, and a team has an awesome pitching coach they would have him forever. This would be quite a permanent advantage for that team. The only way around this (other than editing coaches to be equal in ratings) would be to turn the complete coaching system off, correct? Then it would be equal among all teams.

One other question, if complete coaching system is turned off, would all players have an equal chance at developing to whatever potential they have?

Someone else will have to respond as to exactly how much of an effect coaches have on player performance. I only play historical and I see minimal effects from coaching because the historical player ratings easily take precedence. I suppose no coaches would be an equalizer, but you've still got different stadiums, stamina, weather, strength of opponents, etc to affect performance. Here's what the manual says:

Coaching Ratings

Teach Hitting The ability to teach hitting. The higher this rating is, the more likely young players are to develop hitting skills, and the more likely veteran players are to perform at their expected level or above. This rating is most relevant for managers and hitting coaches.

Teach Pitching The ability to teach pitching. The higher this rating is, the more likely young players are to develop pitching skills, and the more likely veteran players are to perform at their expected level or above. This rating is most relevant for managers and pitching coaches.

Teach Fielding The ability to teach fielding. The higher this rating is, the more likely young players are to develop fielding skills, and the more likely veteran players are to perform at their expected level or above. This rating is most relevant for managers and bench coaches.

I'm wondering how much of an influence strictly looking at it through the lens of coaching? With coaching turned off, I'm sure players would still develop, but with an equal chance to reach whatever potential they may have is my guess. Can anyone confirm this?
