not responding

Can anyone help me here? I just bought OOTP yesterday.

Whenever I am simulating.. and the simulation stops, for whatever reason usually mail or an injury. The game does not respond for 30+ seconds, sometimes upwards of multiple minutes.

The game never crashes... just takes a long time "not responding".

Help?

This happens to me, too, and it means you have OOTP on a slowish hard drive. The game is waiting for the hard drive to update the saved data.

Either buy a faster hard drive or watch the WS while you play. Nothing bad will happen, things simply take longer.

Do you have the international leagues enabled? Those can slow the game down too, because they, plus their minor leagues (where applicable) have to sim all those games and do all the AI GM stuff on top of the US + Canada majors and minors.

But it looks like you have a purely fictional setup, so maybe not.

I have a decent computer and mine does this too. There is a thread somewhere with ideas to speed up sim speed.

I do not save replays, box scores from minors and a couple of other things I will not use. This speeds things up for me.

My laptop does this...though the "not responding" usually only lasts a couple of seconds during my solo league. Now I'm also in a online league and when and when it is downloading and updating the league file the "not responding" might last 10-15 seconds...guessing it having to wait on the hard drive due to the quantity of the changes.

On my desktop which has a much faster hard drive....I don't recall noticing a "not responding" message. If it doesn't it must go away very quickly.

Also check what other programs you have running in the background.
