Exporting League for Future Use
Is there any way to export how I have a league setup so I can create more games like it?

A couple of ways to do it...
You could go under League Options, Global Settings, upper right area under Available Global Actions drop-down menu, select Save this game as a template.... From the top of the screen under the File drop-down menu, select Quickstart games, then select Save current Game as Quickstart... |

Actually I think I missed it up in my initial reply...
![]() The second part is correct: From the top of the screen under the File drop-down menu, select Quickstart games, then select Save current Game as Quickstart... This basically makes a photo copy of your saved game (including history of the league) exactly as it is at the time you save it as a Quickstart... Then you would go under File, Quickstart Games, Start New Quickstart Game and select your Quickstart game that you just made... It will make a new game based entirely off the one you used to make the Quickstart from... The first part of my statement was not explained properly on how to complete making a new game from a template... Under League Options, Global Settings, upper right area under Available Global Actions drop-down menu, select Save this game as a template...This will make a template of the current game... When starting a New Game, select New Custom Game, then select Advanced Mode in the lower left, on the Create New Game page select Advanced Settings, under Templates select Load Templates, then select a game template. Select the template you wish and it will load it into the new game... Before you start the new game you can change things like the starting year or make other changes to the rules, financials, etc., then you start the game... I found if you change the starting year of the new game, it will erase all or part of the history of the league depending on the year you select... Example: Lets say if the league you used as a model for the template was started in 1871 and was currently in the year 1878 and you start a new game using that template and change the start year to 1875 you would loose 3 years of the league history... If you started the game in 1871 you would have no history... To add the template to an existing game, go to Game Settings page under Global Settings, Available Global Actions, Add a template to this game, then select your template... This will add the template you select to the current game you have loaded... I think ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by txranger; 11-13-2014 at 11:57 AM. |

Templates vs Quickstart
txranger,
Thank you for the detailed response. I will have to follow along and try this since I seem to be a bit slow on the uptake. I do have a better handle on it now. Regards, JP

and don't forget, if you have a league/structure that you enjoy and think other may as well, you can share the files on ootpmods.com and share the story/history/journey with ootpwiki.info
yes. ok a shameless plug ... but sharing is what makes this a community ![]()

This is on my planning list for the holidays, so I'll comment and ask a few questions here, since there is already good info.
First, my experience is that QuickStarts do NOT carry over to the next version. I have found that, in the past, I need to start up a QS in the old version, save it as a regular game and then open it in the newer version. At that point I would save it as a higher version QS. Is this (still) true? I have a 32-team New Model Major League Baseball template that I want to update for logos and uniforms using JustAFan's great new programs. It seems to me that I cannot go directly into the QS to add the new art work, that I need to open it up as a new game, change the art work, then re-save it as a new QS. Is this correct? One re-playability tip I've utilized in the past is that I always save a league structure with NO players at any level. That way I can fill the rosters with all new players. That also makes the update to new versions of OOTP easier as the new player features are incorporated from day one of creation.
