Reserve Rosters, Spring Training and Minor League Free Agents
In leagues with reserve rosters and expanded spring training rosters, some teams will sign a bunch of players to minor league contracts once their reserve roster is empty, as those players were moved to the the active spring training roster.
Signing some guys for try outs and anticipating releasing guys at the end of spring training makes sense, but not when some teams in the same league don't even have full rosters yet. It also seems like a couple teams might be cutting the line on minor league free agents? If Camden and Sugar Land aren't skipping a line, shouldn't Lancaster, Long Island and Southern Maryland be more aggressive, and have a better shot at landing minor league free agents given such good odds at getting playing time? |

Nearly all of those players will be cut when rosters expand again. With anything in the game the teams will do what they can with in their budgets. If they have a lot of room when the reserve roster empties because of the expanded spring training camp teams will hire more reserves. (which the game shouldn't do but it does). It's also why you are seeing some teams do it and some don't the ones that have the money will do it. With all the money from sold contracts Sugarland has they have more than enough for minor league contracts.
