Fictional League with real players

Hi. I have been playing since OOTP11 and love this. I have read this board for a couple years now. A lot of very helpful people on here. That is much appreciated.

Any rate, I am trying (have tried) to get a league set up that starts with real players and teams (might us inagural draft, not sure yet) and adds rookies from any era. I have tried this by starting the quicksave with all the correct team names and players, but it doesn't seem to be putting the rookies in. It just created fictional players. I have checked the "Rookies from different eras" box. I let one run last night with the "historical player-rating" box checked also, but haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

I have also tried a Fictional League with the Major league set up, but still doesn't seem to add the real players in. My goal was to start in 1900 with the real players that year, do an inagural draft and sim about 50-75 years to get some history. That is when I would take over a team. I also changed the playoffs, but doubt that has any effect on the players.

I have searched here and googled, but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

I am hardly an expert on historical leagues, so others may offer more specific advice. But if you create a new historical league (one of the options on the main screen), the game will walk you through the options you need to set: the starting year, how you want to start (historical players on their teams or inaugural draft), season length, rules, etc. There is also an option to bring in rookies each year for the first year player draft, which you can do either in the year they made their historical debut or in random years.

If your goal is to run through the history of the league with real players and then takeover at some point, you want to start with a historical league so that real players are brought in each year. Then when you reach the present, the game will essentially become fictional since there are no knew historical players to bring it. You can also force it to stop bringing in the historical players at any point along the way, if you so choose, rather than waiting for the present day.

If you run into any more issues along the way, I'm sure we can help with your more specific questions.
