OOTP is running dreadfully slow on my PC
I really do not understand it. On my macbook, the game runs smooth with no issues. On my PC, it acts like I'm trying to calculate the cure for cancer. Every day in a sim takes half a minute. Every day I get the (Not Responding) on the title bar.
I'm not even running that big of a league. It's the standard MLB game with 3 additional indy leagues. It does it on small leagues as well. It's not that old of a computer. Only about 2 years. What could be the issue? |

I have the same issue. It runs clean and fast on my desktop PC but runs painfully slow on my built-for-gaming ASUS laptop.

This may be the cause of it. There's 30000 hidden players! they are all duplicates. They don't show up in my FA pool. I have the FA are allowed to leave/enter league option on. What is up with this?

Some of those are the real draft guys, who shouldn't show up on your fa screen as they're hidden. But they shouldn't be duplicated and there are other guys who aren't real draft guys in your screen shot. So yeah, that's weird.

I think the problem is from when I saved the game as a template and added the template to my league.

Ugh, So when I save a template, I will have to be sure to delete all the players in the Explore the world menu
Edit: would that be dragging me down? I deleted them all but it hasn't made much difference |

![]() No, they really shouldn't drag you down that much unless your pc has really bad specs, and I'm guessing since it's 2 years old yours should be fine. I dunno what the issue could be. Try starting another small default league and see if that hangs as well. Maybe you can figure out whether it's the league or if it's OOTP on your PC that's the problem. |

I get the "Not Responding" mx from Windows frequently when it thinks something is taking too long. Best I could do was trace the delays to Norton anti-virus, which holds Live Updates hourly AND partial updates every 5 minutes. Seems like overkill and regularly freezes up my PC for 5-10 minutes, particularly around 3-4pm.

AVG or AVAST (Free Versions) are good ones. I've been using AVG for about 8 years now and have never had a problem.
Unless you're running a home network with a lot of secure info that you're worried about, dump Norton. Just my opinion but for normal everyday computer usage, Norton is major over-kill. Simply don't need that kind of protection for a home PC. |

Doesn't Norton have an option, like other system protection software, to designate exclusions of a file or directory? When an AV is consuming CPU resources running through saved games and all of the txt, jpg, png, etc... that this game generates, sure, it takes a long time, but look at its options for a way to ignore/exclude the OOTP directories.

I believe it does. But I'm not a current Norton user. Also, in my past experience with Norton, it is extremely difficult to erase its existence from your PC. Somehow, Norton software fights like Rocky to stay glued to your hard drive.
That may be improved in recent versions. I mention this, because running more than one anti-virus software package can be more trouble than you think. I use Kaspersky, which is only a system hog on bootup (desktop PC), but after that, it's pretty light. Last edited by goalieump413; 07-19-2014 at 01:14 PM. |

apparently based on a comparison i just read, Kaspersky has the lowest ram usage. I think I'll try them out.

So I have uninstalled Norton and holy crap what a difference. It is still slower than my mac but I don't get the (Not Responding) at the top every time I advance a day.
