If I am satisfied with the way my OOTOP15 plays-I never download new patches.

That's like saying "My GM car has never burned up and killed me, what's the point of taking it in for the recall?" The patches fix things that are broken. Whether you notice it or not, your game is doing things that it shouldn't be doing. |

OOTP has never, not once, crashed on me, except in one specific repeatable instance of a bug during beta. Last edited by Questdog; 07-14-2014 at 08:16 AM. |

The FHM has actually got worse with the newer patches(as far as I am concerned). Can't edit a damn thing unless its July 1st. Wish I had the patch when editing wasn't a problem plus I could have more teams in a Custom League. Sorry-The grass isn't always greener on the other side. |

Still Getting Frequent Crashes after latest Patch
Quote:
2gb I am running a new fictional league with 150 teams (30 pro, 30 aaa, 30 aa, 30 a, 30 rookie). What concerns me is that I am only in April (opening day) I will say this...last night after posting this I did realize my Norton was active. The last several times This happened it was always active. Of late I had been turning it off while I actually played a game and it has yet to crash while doing this. Coincidence? Maybe. But last night I forgot again and it did crash. The weird thing for me is it ALWAYS crashes while actually playing a game and it is ALWAYS late in the game (ie 7th inning or later) After I realized I had Norton on when it crashed last night, I turned it off and played two flawless uneventful games to completion so I did get my home opener completed ![]() I would like to add that (knock on wood) I have not experienced ANY crashes in OOTP15 (any patch) outside of the game screen. No menu surfing crashes etc at all Edit : just to note it does not crash every time with Norton, just seems that when it does that is the only common denominator I can place it to right now Last edited by redranger; 07-14-2014 at 09:57 AM. Game was crashing in game screen on original and all patches. I really think it is something outside of the game causing this because I am reading about most other crashes being very random ( any menu screen etc). I am not seeing or hearing anyone else with my specific type crashes ( ie in game late innings only) I am trialling turning off Norton to see if that might have something to do with it. Coincidence? Maybe because I know I am far from the only person running OOTP with Norton. Maybe it ties to this and possibly other variables in which create the perfect storm for my machine and game. Not sure. But for now until I get a crash having turned off Norton while playing I am going to continue to do so BTW as far patches. I always install them even if I am not experiencing in game issues as they typically are always stated to "fix" an issue or add a feature of sorts. I never know sometimes if I am experiencing the issues stated to be fixed so I will install it I have been playing OOTP since ver2 and have always installed the patches. I can not recall any really disrupting or breaking anything. If it did I know Markus and team have always been quick to fix problems |

My universe is just over 1800 teams. I have not seen a crash yet although I do not play out every single game.
Another thing to do, if you are playing a large universe is to sim a short time and then close and restart (a couple of months for me). Like lots of programs, there are memory leaks (very hard things to find). So that the long the game runs the more memory it consumes. All crashes should be reported on the bug thread, with the file. It is the only way for Marcus to try and find them. While nice, describing them is usually not sufficient.

P.S. Until OOTP goes to 64-bit, having more than 4 GB in a Windows machine is not very helpful, but having 4 GB is nearly essential. Last edited by Questdog; 07-14-2014 at 10:43 AM. |

RAM is inexpensive these days. I would say that 4 gig is essential, 8 gig is recommended.

It's a freeze more than a crash in Win 7
As it says above my issues with the new patch are consistent freezes (94%) during "Finish Today" and when backing up. The freeze never clears (12-15 hours) and OOTP is completely unresponsive but does not show as "not responding" in task manager. However the CPU temperature monitor spikes to 85C in all 4 cores. Note that my first occurrence was in "leave Game", so in all three cases the freeze occurs when OOTP has to write or to save something.
These freezes occur in Windows 7 consistently; ie 8-10 times in two different leagues. See the screenshot below. Up until now I had zero issues on this computer with v15 and v14 before it. My computer is fully up to date and has 6 gig ram. I'd have a problem accepting this as my RAM issue due to the fact that there were zero problems with OOTP prior to this patch. We do know that Markus solved a problem where OOTP could not access certain RAM under certain conditions. It seems reasonable to suggest that that fix is a possible source of these new issues. So far I don't see the problem in my Win 8 machine but more checking is needed IMO. edit; ticket DJM-386160 submitted

The "fix" was not something Markus concocted in his own labratory, but a Microsoft solution for addressing more RAM in 32-bit environments. It should not be the source of your issue. |

I have 8GB of ram and my game crashes during the Almanac after 3 seasons of playing.
I had an older league that I sent a ticket in for and they could not find anything wrong but by that time I had just restarted as that was only after the first season |
