I just recently read 'Only the Ball was White'
It is a fantastic primer on the later days of the Negro Leagues right around the time of integration

Pat Jordan's A False Spring is a great book, a coming of age story that happens to center on baseball.

I also really like Bill James' Guide to Baseball Managers. If you like his Abstract, you'll like that too.

Any of Dirk Hayhurst's 3 books, although the best of the 3 is his first one The Bullpen Gospels.

Some ot the best I've read discuss a year in detail. 1908 1023 1934 1949 are a few examples

Yeah, I liked Bullpen Gospels too. Kinda Ball Four-esque but from a completely different place in life.

I'm a big fan of Willie's Time, by Charles Einstein.
