Toughest Loss in Playoffs?

So I just finished my 3rd season in my Braves franchise, won 112 games, top pitching in the league with more of a small ball (BA + speed) offense. I swept the hated Nationals in divisional round but then in the NLCS vs the Rockies who I went 7-0 vs in the regular season I got upset in 6 games.

Game 2 loss - Teheran threw a 1-hitter with 13 K's but the one hit was a solo HR in 1st inning, lost 1-0

Game 4 loss - Game winning 2-run HR in 8th inning by pen, lost 5-4

Game 5 loss - Teheran 8.0 IP, 3 Hits allowed, 2 runs, up 3-2 and backup CL Addison Reed (Kimbrel hurt in mid September) throws back to back WILD PITCHES to blow the lead and the game! Never seen that before and it totally sucks!

Game 6 loss - Up 5-0 in 7th and wheels far off giving up a 2-run HR to Prince Fielder, Solo HR to CarGo and then a game winning 3-run HR to Rafel Ortega. Up 5-0 with 9 outs to go you feel good, but holy crap it sucks to see 3 HR in one inning which was more than the first 5 games combined.

It totally does HP, but at same time it is what I love about the game and makes me can't wait to get through the off-season so I can try again next season

I lost the WS in my league three seasons back when my rested closer came into the sixth game in the bottom of the 9th with us down three games to two and up by two runs. He got two quick outs, walked a guy, the second baseman booted a grounder (don't get me started on my bleeping second basemen), he went 0 and 2 on their .219 BA 4 HR catcher, and boom, out of the park, season over.

My wife said she didn't even know I knew some of the things that I said then.

to be fair, last year I won the World Series in Game 7 by a BALK!! I felt like I kinda cheated in that one. Can you imagine the umpire making that call to end a World Series!!!

I had a season, I had 115 wins and cruised right through the playoffs until the finals and was up 3-0 in those. We lost 3 straight and in game 7 we were up 6-0 and brought in my closer in the 9th and things just exploded for the other teams bats and lost 7-6 on a walkoff grandslam. Ugh, that one hurt though that was OOTP 12 or something

Oh geez. Should I just list my last five seasons as Rays GM? I think I will.
  • 2015: 92-71, won the division after a one-game playoff with the Red Sox. Immediately got swept in the ALDS by the Tigers, who ultimately won the World Series.
  • 2016: 89-73, 2nd in the division after an amazing finish that saw every team except Toronto be in the mix until the final week. Won the Wild Card game, went up 2-1 in the ALDS with a 2-run, 9th inning lead in Game 4. Then some unknown kid, who had appeared in just 40 games in his career, crushed a 3-run home run to put Oakland in the lead and ultimately force a Game 5. Which Oakland won. On a walk-off home run. In another 9th inning comeback.
  • 2017: 89-73 (again), 2nd in the division. Won the Wild Card game, then immediately got thumped by the Royals in 4 games in the ALDS.
  • 2018: 91-71, 1st in the division. Rematch with the Royals in the ALDS. Trailing 2 games to 1, but held a commanding lead in Game 4. Proceeded to watch my bullpen implode, blowing a 5-run 9th inning lead (primarily on a game-tying grand slam), and then losing the series in extras.
  • 2019: 90-72, 2nd in the division. Won the Wild Card game, then got steamrolled in the ALDS by the Rangers, who outscored us 29-9 in their three wins.

Obviously, 2016 was the worst. But I haven't had a lot of GOOD playoff memories with this team in the first place. Currently, in 2020, we're 50-21, best record in the MLB in late June. If we don't at least make the ALCS this year, I might actually cry.

2035, my London Doctors made it back to the playoffs for the first time in nine years, with the majors' best record, 104 wins. Lost in the first round to Tokyo, game 7, 12-11 in 10 innings. So freaking close. Wait 'til next year!

Tokyo then got beat in five games in the Super Series (my fictional league's version of the World Series) by Motor City, only the third non-Original Eight team to win it all in 23 seasons. Not sure if I'm happy about that or not. On one hand, it's always nice to see the team that beat you lose, but then again, it's a bit better for the ego to say you got beat by the team that won the championship.

If you'd been playing Houston you would have had Jonathan E. on your team so you'd have been sure to win!

No, wait, that's rollerball, not baseball. Never mind!

The logo's over in Justafan's logo thread someplace. Uniforms shown below, because bow ties are cool:
