Community involvement time!

Hey folks. I've decided to ask the community if they think I should move the Detroit Robins in my league to another city. I'm asking the community because I'm managing this team and don't want my own bias to influence it.

Team has existed for 62 years: No playoffs, no championships. 3 2nd place finishes, 3 3rd place finishes. Mostly 5th place and lower finishes. 4239-5347 record lifetime. Small market, minimal fan loyalty. Tolerant and Charitable owner.

Ask me anything else you need to decide.

Note to self: Princess Kenny was really off-putting.

What cities do you have open? Theoretically at least if you had good spread it'd be hard to justify a move even for a crap-sack team with terrible attendance.

You said they've been around 62 years.. how long is that relative to the rest of the league?

Don't move them, but give them a makeover, a la the Tampa Bucs going from creamsicle disco dancers to rust-colored throat slashers.

Detroit Robins? Pansies! Make them something sinister like the Flesh Eaters or Predators or Pterodactyls or Liches. Then start signing some bad mofo intimidators, Bob Gibson and Ty Cobb style, to change the losing culture.

Or just give them a capable GM. Just kidding. Move them to a bigger market depending on what cities are still available. Having them in the same city with another team might doom them to a smaller market once again.

Don't move them, just think how much enjoyment you'll get when they reach the play offs for the first time. I bet it wouldn't be as much if you moved the team and signed a load of high priced free agents to get that play off spot.

Is there an option for "kill it with fire"?

What year are you in? In 20 years, there probably won't be a Detroit anyway - they'll have bulldozed the place by then. So move 'em if you're past, say, 2035 or so. Maybe to the 'burbs, Oakland County or some such, or someplace not too far away, like Ann Arbor.

'65 right now. Started the league in 1903 and took over the team in 1963. Still about 10 years from FA and 7 or 8 from the institution of the DH, not that that would help my team and their 5.01 ERA much.

Ah, you're just starting to get to the declining years. Wait until at least the 80s, then. Unless you wanna move 'em to the 'burbs in, say, the 70s or so.

It's strange because I've played out a few different fictional leagues and it seems like certain cities are always at the bottom of the pack. Detroit ALWAYS being one of them. The other perennial losers are almost always from Pittsburgh, New York, and San Francisco. On the other hand, St Louis, Louisville, Philadelphia and Baltimore always seem to field a powerhouse.

Same although often different teams. Detroit usually is about average. Baltimore and Pittsburgh are almost always the worst teams in their league. Minneapolis teams seem to do a lot better than reality.

That said Pittsburgh is actually one of the better teams which defies convention. 17 World Series appearances and 5 wins. Detroit and Boston are the worst in this league.

So they are kind of like the fictional version of the Cubs then pretty much right?? At least it sounds like it, although more average than below average but still, they haven't won anything yet so in that sense they are like the Cubs....LOL j/k ;-P

Do you have teams that have been powerhouses in your league? It would be interesting to make a backup and have you take over one of those teams for a couple of decades. Even go back to the start and manage another.

Do they still will or are you the curse?

Much like the real MLB the AL New York team is the powerhouse in this world. 26 trips to the World Series and 15 wins. All in 61 years or so. Not bad.

Well heading into the draft on June 15th we're 26-30. I can honestly say I thought we'd be doing worse.

Bored so I thought I'd share a few images with you.

1) The #1 ranked 1B in the Majors. Won the AL HR crown last year and currently leading this years batting title race, and in fact leading all of baseball in average.

2) Concussions strike again! This had to particularly suck for St. Louis since have had a rough decade and this guy was poised to be the top player of his generation. He led the majors in HRs last year with 51 and already had 20 before his career came to a sudden end.

3) Must be a bug.

Spoke too soon. Extended the 3 game winning streak to 6 games and have moved into 2nd place. What a weird freakin year.
