Expanded Regular Season Rosters in OOTP5
Apologies if this has already been touched upon, but is there any chance we can have an option to expand or contract regular season rosters from 25?
There have been times in the past when rosters have been expanded (most recently after the last strike, when the MLBPA negotiated to allow 28 man rosters to help offset pitchers' lack of conditioning due to a short Spring Training) and there have been potential rules tossed around to allow for additional roster space for DHs, PRs, and designated fielders or, in the case of contraction, adding additional spaces to appease the players' association. It would be nice to have this option available to us, as we could expand or contract the rosters as our leagues evolve. It would also be nice for leagues not modeled after major league baseball, so that if we want to have 12-15 players for a Little League-type league or 30 players for an Independent or College League, we could make that decision.

I would like to see this feature added as well.
Would help me immensely in some of my leagues.

I proposed the same idea for a variable roster size setting in my big suggestion thread.
However, I'd love to see it go even further. For example, in older seasons, teams didn't start the regular season with 25 active players; they could have up to 40 players on the roster and the reduction to 25 players didn't happen until a month into the season. The ways in which roster limits have fluctuated over the years in MLB is summarized here (look for the handy chart towards the bottom of the page): http://users.erols.com/brak/rosters.htm Interesting stuff; I recommend giving this article as well as some of the other articles at this site a look. I would LOVE to be able to duplicate these kinds of roster restrictions in OOTP; it would really make for some interesting possibilities. |

I agree because it adds flexibility to however you want to run your league
I also think something should be added to allow commissioners to override any restrictions. (ie trades after the deadline, roster transactions during the playoffs etc...) This would allow more customization in online leagues. |

Heck yeah something like this would be great. Allowing the owners of the game to customize their leagues is what OOTP is all about!

Oddly enough I was just looking into creating a league based on a minor league orgainization and came across the roster size problem. Didn't post it because I wasn't sure how many people would want that, I guess I was wrong.

Customization is the reason I buy this game. Definately needs to be looked into. I agree with ya Swaggs.

I agree with you on that. I agree with Raven as well, the commish should be able to override all options.

This sounds like a good option to have, but I believe it will be extremely difficult to program.
Making the roster size editable shouldn't be that big of a deal. What will be tough is making sure the computer AI is smart enough to be able to handle its tasks when the roster size could be all over the map. If you think trade AI is imperfect now, just wait until you try to trade for a computer-run team's third catcher when the roster size is 35. Or 23. Or 40 or whatever. I think it's a great idea (and I'm not trying to negate that), but before getting too excited, we should think through the ramifications.
