Trade difficulty

I have a questionsabout the trade difficulty settings. I understand that medium is a joke (one prospect for ryan braun? sorry too easy) so i use hard, but i currently have the trading preference set to neutral. i see a lot of people talking about how it needs to be set to favors prospects or heavily favors prospects. why is this?

Well, I do it because that is generally how real baseball operates...

From a gameplay perspective, I do it because I want it to be harder to acquire premium young talent. I want the CPU to hoard their precious top prospects like they are platinum bars -- just like real life.

You can still make trades for them, but you can expect to pay a premium.

I agree completely.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

will a team that is in win now mode favor their prospects less despite the settings?

Obviously, I don't know the code behind the AI, but it seems to me that the "Favor" setting just modifies the math that would go into accepting trades. I'll try to leave an example to explain my thinking, if I lose you, let me know!

Let's say that the base "score" (on neutral settings) you need to trade for a veteran on a rebuilding team is a 50, but the AI will take a 40 if its a young prospect.

Now lets say that its set to heavily favor prospects. I might only need a 40 to trade for that veteran now, but the AI will take a 10 score if its receiving young prospects in return.

This is obviously just a very basic thought into how I picture it working, but yes, I find that the AI generally tends to make trades according to their team strategy.

I've never really done much testing on the opposite end of the spectrum past neutral -- but in that case I expect to have to trade more unproven young talent in order to acquire MLB veteran players.

(I should say, I don't in any way mean to imply that the AI is coded so basic, I was just trying to present a basic example. This AI seems impossibly complex at some points.)
