I Must Share This

My 2-year-old son is currently sitting on the floor, calling out numbers and players from my MLB Quickstart. They are all fictional players at this point. He has his own keyboard that is disconnected from everything, and he is sitting on the floor, calling out player names and saying who is 1, 2, etc.. He's making his own batting order! Aside from putting two pitchers in the same lineup (pitchers hitting being a sign of a mind that is not yet fully developed, of course), he did a great job! All 10 (he had a guy batting "zero" after 9) were actual players from my league.

I let him sit in my lap and I do abbreviated play-by-play with him, did that since he was an infant, just because it's good to talk to him and I had no idea what to talk to an infant about. Once he could talk, he started asking to "watch baseball." I have to now ask him whether he wants "real baseball" with "Big Papi" and "Pedroia", or "Daddy's Baseball" on the computer. I think he knows more of my fictional players than he does the real Red Sox roster.

This seems like a group that might enjoy this story.

Send me in PM his roster management strategy before others will learn it, OK?

I like that story. When my kids were infants I'd do play by play to them of baseball as well. Nice!

Red Sox baseball isn't "real" baseball.

The difference between a man and a woman is that a woman, given the choice between saving an infant or catching a fly ball, wouldn't even consider if there are men on base.

I guess they play hopscotch and tiddlywinks at Fenway...

What's that say about the rest of the league then? Since they won it all.

Well, based on what I've heard so far, his strategy is centered around having 10 players, 2 of which are pitchers, in his lineup on any given day. Granted, one of those pitchers is a two-way player (The hideous "Ratbreath" Fuentes for anyone who remembers the two-way player thread from OOTP 13), but still.

10 guys? It's only cheating if they catch on.

He's probably so cute they just let it go. I know I would.
