Honus Wagner must be in the dog house
Started a random debut league and Honus Wagner imported at the age of 25. I was happy to see this, because Honus always seems to be one of those guys that comes in as an old dude in random debuts. So, I start the first season and I see Honus is on the reserve roster for the Pensacola Armada. He stays there all season. I start the second season, no Honus. He once again sits on the reserve roster all season. Last night, was the start of year 3. Honus is once again a reserve. I'm thinking he must have got caught in bed with the managers daughter. Strange.

Is he a five star player in that universe?

He came in as a one star/five star potential. He now has 1.5 stars and 5 potential. Part of me wonders if he would be faring differently if I was using minor league teams instead of reserve rosters. But, I have recalc on(3), so I'm not sure why it would make a difference.

...So, the Armada doesn't have anything better than a 1 star player at his position, right?

Wagner is a player you would actually rather have import as an older player. Bill James called him one of the best old players in baseball history.

I had the same problem with Rogers Hornsby. I changed some of the great players in history to their real debut age. Rogers ended up in Triple A. I like random debut idea but not the way the historical random debut is. What i mean is that yes i know its random and anything can happen but still Rogers Hornsby abilities should still be in the ballpark of hitting .358 over a career. Now granted his totals may be altered by maybe facing a few better pitchers like Roger Clemens or Sandy Koufax but he will also face some less talented players than of his time and that should balance it out.
But what it seems like is a random debut player development league. If recalc is on then why wouldnt Babe Ruth perform close to what Babe Ruth did that season? Otherwise its more closer to a fictional universe with historical names. I guess player development in historical leagues never made much sense to me because if depends on how they develop they become more or less fictional players. I dont know maybe im not saying it correctly but i do like random players. I just wish their abilities were more bound to their historical reality as in regular historical leagues.
