PWBL Phillies - Number One Pick Included

The PWBL Phillies, with first pick in the '48 draft, are now open to new management. The previous Phillies owner improved the talent level greatly in a short period of time, especially in the recent free agent period and the upcoming draft should give the team a further shot in the arm.

For those of you unfamiliar with the PWBL, it is a historical league with a serious focus on accuracy. We started in the '46 season and are about to start the '48 season. We draft this coming Saturday. Check us out and drop me a line if interested.

Here are a few of the choice players you could have with the number one pick:

Roy Campanella

Robin Roberts

Richie Ashburn

Take Ashburn... Campy may never hit above .250, and Roberts is a turkey.

I'm interested in taking a look at your league but having no luck viewing the page - is the site down at the moment?

The site was up an hour ago. Most likely the host is doing maintenance. It shouldn't be down long.

Host completed maintenance earlier. Have a look at my favorite online league and fire off an application to GM an up and coming team in the PWBL. Any of the three players listed above, though Campanella would be my choice, will be a big part of the Phillies resurgence.

Was he ever... pretty good ratings, but he can't get anybody out.

Good luck with the PWBL, it's one I keep an eye on- I probably would have applied if I wasn't already in league in the same era. And scratch Ashburn, whoever gets the #1 should trade it... see if the Tigers will give you Dick Wakefield

I think Robin Roberts is gonna start on an upswing in SO49. Of course I may be a little biased, being that he is a Philly.

Basically up until this point he has been a below .500 pitcher with an ERA over 5.00.

He had a great start in the 1952 WS, so I am hoping that could carry over

Roberts looks mighty good heading into the PWBL draft. Ashburn was selected first by new PWBL GM Woburn in the forum draft and Roberts should be long gone before Saturday's live draft wraps things up.

Robin Roberts goes second in the ammy draft to Detroit. Tigers have more young talent than any team in the PWBL this side of Cincinnati.

PWBL draft to date. A run on catchers has seen three backstops selected with the first eight picks.

1. Richie Ashburn CF Phillies
2. Robin Roberts P Tigers
3. Roy Campanella C Browns
4. Carl Erskine P Giants
5. Mike Garcia P Reds
6. Ray Boone SS Pirates
7. Stan Lopata C Braves
8. Carl Sawatski C Athletics

Much to my chagrin, the Braves grabbed Lopata, the player we had high hopes of landing pre-draft, one slot ahead of us. Grrrr.

After 4 consecutive pitcher selections, Yankees GM Dave Simpson nabbed the premier power hitter in the draft in LF Hank Sauer. The Bronx Bombers will feature a lineup spotlighting sluggers Sauer, Ralph Kiner, DiMaggio, King Kong Keller and young Yogi Berra in '48, a truly awe inspiring collection of talent.

Rumor is that both the Dodgers and Cubs drafting next had Sauer at the top of their respective draft lists. Time to reshuffle and reconsider for these two NL powers.

01. Richie Ashburn CF Phillies
02. Robin Roberts P Tigers
03. Roy Campanella C Browns
04. Carl Erskine P Giants
05. Mike Garcia P Reds
06. Ray Boone SS Pirates
07. Stan Lopata C Braves
08. Carl Sawatski C Athletics
09. Johnny Antonelli P White Sox
10. Billy Pierce P Senators
11. Ned Garver P Red Sox
12. Mickey McDermott P Indians
13. Hank Sauer OF Yankees
