7th Place Hitter Batting Leadoff

I absolutely love the game and have for years, but there is one thing that always bugs me. When the leadoff batter in the set lineups has a day off, the 7th place hitter is placed in the leadoff slot. It doesn't matter if he's a slow catcher or an infielder with poor obpct, they are thrust into the leadoff slot. I can't understand why a game as complex as OOTP can't just judge from the 9 starters which player would be the best leadoff candidate. I know this has been discussed before, but I thought it worth mentioning.

It should not be that big a deal if your are an NL manager, since the 7 hole is supposed to be a speed slot. And if you KNOW the 7 guy is going to be leading off sometimes, then why not stick someone you want in there?

Dusty Baker never could figure out who to hit leadoff and you expect a plastic box to?

Actually, it is not that OOTP cannot figure out a better lead off man, but a lot of users complained when the AI would rearrange their lineups completely when someone took a breather. So this is the compromise to keep as much of the original lineup intact as possible.

I understand that but what about non-human controlled teams? Do we really want to have AI teams playing games with poor leadoff batters when they clearly have better choices for the slot?

I think it is probably too much to have separate AI's.....one for human teams and one for AI's teams......

edit: nm...AI does this for itself.....

The workaround would be to make sure every team has the second choice for a leadoff man batting in the seventh spot. Do not ever bat the catcher in the seventh spot unless you feel he is a good second choice to bat leadoff when your regular leadoff guy is taking a game off. This goes for any other player who is slow (dh, 1b, 3b) or has a poor OPB without game-changing speed.

Would the use of 7-day lineups fix this? I remember having this problem where the AI would change my set lineups in simmed games pretty often. Since switching to the 7-day lineups, I haven't noticed it yet.
