You have been hired as a GM

There was a list of job openings. Some or Manager, others for General Manager. I elected to apply for a Manager position and was greeted with an email saying that I had been made GM. This has happened on both instances in applying as Manager. I don't want to GM.

The games been like this in ootp9 when I first started, you can only be the GM, but what you can do is go into your manager settings screen and tell the AI to handle trades, signings, promotions and all, which essentially acts as it does when you are playing a minor league team.

I will say as someone that much prefers managing the games to all the back ground GM type actions, you will quickly find that they will start getting rid of players you would rather them not to, so for that reason I'd recommend trying to take over the gm things as soon as you get comfortable with the game. It is a little daunting at first but you can pick it up fast.

A few things I did was play small leagues without minors to lessen the number of GM tasks you had to do. I even made a European league once where every team was in a different country and all players had to be from the country, that let me sign players, build my team but there was no trading nor competing to sign players and finding players was a matter of looking at 15 or 20 guys from your country not on a team that you could sign instead of sorting through 100's.

I always thought that player movement happened way too often for I never saw so many roster changes in real life

My experience too; I enjoyed minor league managing but it was ridiculous how often guys (especially pitchers) got yanked up and down.

This makes it very difficult to play a game when starting unemployed. You start with a bad team and they make roster moves that make your team worse, since you're most likely coaching A or lower.
