Approx. 30 Hours Left :)
30 Hours left to sign up for the first OOTP5 league. I guarentee nothing but the best with this league, as it will be a blast! We will have complete day by day updates, a weekly chat wrap up, trivia contests, a league magazine, and much much more! If you want to get in, now is your chance.
Original Post Hello All, I am very pleased to announce the first OOTP5 league starting: The Fight For October TFFO is a historical league, starting in 1941, arguably the best baseball season ever. What makes this league so special you ask? Well, in TFFO, we sim 1 day of the season, once a day. Yes, that's right, a real-paced 1941 league. Get your mindset back in the 40's, managing some of the best ballplayers to play the game, such as Teddy Ballgame, and Joltin' Joe. TFFO is designed only for the true lovers of the game, who have the time and patience, plus the love for the game, to handle this league. Extreme activity will be required, as we want owners to post articles as much as possible, and get to know each other well. Unfortunately for some, this league is not a straight historical league. Expansions will occur when the Commissioner deems them necessary, and financials, trading, and Free Agents have all been set to on. Reduced ratings will be used, with no coaches/scouts, and there will be no DH. The website can be found HERE Thankfully, the amazing Church joined me in this project, and was able to design an AMAZING graphical site. I am proud to say that I did everything that does not have an image on it He did all those fancy graphics that you see, and boy does it look beautiful! Ok, now to the most important part: Joining Since I will be putting an extremely large amount of time into this league, I want the most active owners possible, who suit the league well. Therefore, applications will be open from today, February 10th, all the way until February 17th. I will not look at any of the applications until February 17th, and I will then pick the other 14 Owners (Church and I already have a team) from what I recieve. Here is how you join: Send me an email at commish@simsportsworld.com with the subject line reading "Joining The Fight For October". I will trash any emails I see that say "joining" or "hey", or anything else. I recieve lots of emails a day, and if I am unable to sort them out between my folders without opening the subject, I will delete them. The email should include the following information: First/Last Name: Age: Email: OOTP Community Name: Home State: How many OOTP Leagues are you in? Link them for me, and tell me your teams: Would you be interested in being Assistant Commish? Previous commissioner experience is wanted, and you need to know how to use FTP, and a website design program: What are the 5 teams you wouldn't mind taking (see list below): In approx. 50 words, tell me why you want to join, and what seperates you from just a "normal" owner: Teams Available (Red Sox and Yankees are taken): Detroit Tigers Cleveland Indians Chicago White Sox St. Louis Browns Washington Nationals Philadelphia Athletics Cincinnati Reds Brooklyn Dodgers St. Louis Cardinals Pittsburgh Pirates Chicago Cubs New York Giants Boston Bees Philadelphia Phillies Finally; I do not care if you are in 50 leagues, are in 0 leagues, if you have been in the OOTP community for over a year, or just 2 days, have 1000+ Posts, have 3 posts, are 14 years old, or 70 years old. Everyone who applies for this league will have a shot to get in. There is no favortism in this league. If you can prove to me you are a great owner, you will get in. Thank you for your time, and hopefully I will be recieving your application shortly Steve White TFFO Creator, Commissioner, and GM of the Boston Red Sox (P.S.- This league will officially open its doors within 2 weeks after the release of OOTP5. All owners will be required to own the game before we start. Also, the rules page is the only page currently working, so please be sure to read that.)

This is NOT the first OOTP5 league. It may be the first NEW league for OOTP5, but there's leagues which have been around since OOTP2 and I think they'd be the first OOTP5 league since they are switching to the new game.

Watch out if you join this league. Hardball lasted about two weeks

Yes, the same guy. I joined hardball after promises about how much time he was going to put into the league. As soon as I heard that he was starting another league there was some rumbling on the hardball message boards. Why not start just one league and stick with that? I went to check out the hardball website earlier today and it was replaced with this new league. This, after he said not to worry about our fears on the hardball message boards. I did receive a long e-mail about his reasons for shutting down hardball and an application form for this new league. I think I'll pass. Ohhh well, this just gives me more time to work on my solo league and website...

I'm not sure I understand...
Why would someone just close a league at the first sim, wipe the slate clean, and start a new one? I'm not doubting you but a commissioner would lose all credibility doing something like that. There must be more to it?

I'll get the email asap and post it, but the fact that I've gotten nothing but support from owners through email, tells me that it's not as 1 sided of a story as you put it dargone.
I am not going to turn this into an argument either, as I am not able to put myself in the shoes of the owner whos league was folded.

Email that was sent Sunday (sorry for all the spaces, it pasted weird):
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello All, Unforutunately, this is not a happy email. It's a disappointing one, especially for myself. For the past month, I had been trying to set up and plan a day by day league, that would start it's play with OOTP5. I had contacted every man I knew who could help me out. I hadn't gotten a response, so I just let the idea pass. Then, I decided to make Hardball, a fun, fictional league that would hopefully build itself to be a great league. All things were going well, and I could tell the league was going to be good. About a week after Hardball opened, I surprisingly heard from Mr. Church, the gentlemen who made our logos. He told me he wanted to help out with my "every day sim" idea, and he designed me some remarkable graphics for the site. When this happened, I realized I was in trouble. I knew that I would not have enough time for both leagues, especially one that simmed everyday. But I tried anyways, attempting to sim Hardball, while set up the new "Fight for October". I've realized it does not work, as I have zero free time to run Hardball, with the amount of effort The Fight For October takes up. I feel very guilty, leading you all into a sim that I know could have been good, if things didn't happen at the time they did. The week before the sim was the worst, as I had no time to update the files, website, or even communicate with you fine folks. Noticing the failure on my part to present the first sim in a fashionable way, and noticing the inactivity on the message board because of this, I have realized Hardball would have trouble amounting to anything special, as I had tainted it before it's first sim. With this being said, I am truely sorry to announce the closing of Hardball. It has been my true passion to commish an old time league, with simming every day. I have the back up support to help with the league, and I feel like it is the best way for me to go. I have wasted your time, and I am sorry. I know you can not replace time, but I want to try. If any of you have any favors that you ever need, contact me and I will definetely try to do them. You all did a favor for me by joining the league, so I feel as though I must repay that. I feel unprofessional right now, closing something that should be finished, but I know if I go any farther, I'll just wind up more over my head. However, I know with this new Fight For October league, it WILL be top of the line, as I feel like I have all the tools, and the research to make it a spectacular league. Therefore, I am opening the league up to any of you who want to join. I promise you nothing but the best in this new league, and it certainly would make me feel better if a few of you joined, since I closed the old one. Let me remind you it's a 1941 league, so only if you have passion for old-style baseball, it's best to not join. If you would like to join fill this out and send it back: First/Last Name: Age: Email: OOTP Community Name: Home State: How many OOTP Leagues are you in? Link them for me, and tell me your teams: Would you be interested in being Assistant Commish? Previous commissioner experience is wanted, and you need to know how to use FTP, and a website design program: What are the 5 teams you wouldn't mind taking (see list below): >Detroit Tigers >Cleveland Indians >Chicago White Sox >St. Louis Browns >Washington Nationals >Philadelphia Athletics >Cincinnati Reds >Brooklyn Dodgers >St. Louis Cardinals >Pittsburgh Pirates >Chicago Cubs >New York Giants >Boston Bees >Philadelphia Phillies With all that being said, I would like to say sorry once again, though I know words don't make up for actions. You were all great owners in the time I got to know you, and I'm hoping I get to know you all a little more in the future. With all my apologies, Steve

I'm not angry about this, but it did upset me a little. You were really gun-ho about the new Hardball league, and you done a good job setting it up. And not to mention the hard work Church put into the logos. I was looking for to managing my Detroit team. Anyways, good luck with your new league.

I will DEF. not waste Church's logos, as those are just too good to be "thrown away". I have them, and will give them to someone once they start up an OOTP5 fictional league or whatever they desire, and are in need of logos. I already know one guy who is going to start his own league from Hardball, so it's a perfect fit.

I don't see how you feel it's not as one-sided as I put it. The fact is, you started hardball making claims about how much time and effort you were going to be putting in. You folded hardball after about two weeks, which came first, for this new league. I feel I have a right to be a bit upset about this. You have lost all credibility with me and I'm letting people know that you may be misleading them on your new league. I sincerely doubt that I am the only hardball owner who is a bit upset about this. I'm from California, which by definition make me laid back, so I'm not going to post anymore regarding this issue. However, I felt that fellow players like myself deserved a warning with regards to your actions. Take care and I hope this doesn't happen again.
