Rookies
Please forgive me if this is not in the correct forum to post this in. I am not new to the game but am new to posting questions, and guessed this was the best place to start.
I have set-up an historical MLB game (starting in 1940) and changed all the team names to fictional ones (for my British Baseball League) as I, obviously, wanted a fictional league but have all the real-life MLB players involved. I now have 2 questions. 1. Am I correct in thinking that if I check the box to "Import Historical Rookies to the Free Agent Pool" then all the rookies for a particular year will automatically be placed into free agency and any team can then obtain that player? 2. At some point in the future of my league I want to introduce colleges (or some sort of feeder league, anyway)...but what I don't want is for computer generated players to be generated for that league and then find their way into my major leagues (i want to keep it to real-life MLB players only). If possible, I'd like to see the rookies play for the feeder teams? Does this make sense and, if so, is there anyway for this to happen? |

Import Historical rookies - there are two options when using this feature:
1. Have the players assigned to their original teams which basically means they would debut with the real life team they debuted with. 2. Not assign them to original teams which means they will go to your draft pool and be available for your amateur draft that year. Since you have changed your league to fictional, you are left with the option of having them go to the draft pool. There is another way to import historical players and make them free agents. You have to do this manually, but it's not that difficult. There is a way to make a text file list of the players you want and import them all at once instead of individually. I'm not up to snuff on that, but I'm sure someone who is will respond here and explain how to do it. Pretty sure you can't have real life players come into feeder leagues. What you might be able to do is create independent leagues to act as your feeders, then import the real players into that at a young age and have them play/develop there, then have that league "feed" your major league. They could come in as FA's, which I think is what you want? Last edited by Bluenoser; 03-06-2014 at 08:29 AM. |

Also do a search in the Historical Forum, as you'll find a lot of good info there dealing with historical player imports.

Thank you very much for the quick response...that is something I am constantly amazed at on these forums, the speed with which people reply.
I am 10 years into my league now and have been using option 2, rookies drop into the draft pool and a modern style draft ensues. What I wanted to do is re-start my league and not have an amateur draft until sometime in the 1970's. What I was wondering was if I did this would the players automatically go into the free agents pool or am I barking up the wrong tree. |

1) Yes you can have them go into the Free Agent pool, but you will not like the results...if your teams have the same budget, or using Reserve Clause financials, you may find certain teams hogging all the Free Agents. Best bet is to have a draft
2) Real players cannot go into feeder leagues, that is for fictional leagues only

Carlton, excellent reply...just the answer I was looking for.
I want teams hogging a lot of the players for the first decade or so (British sport is fuelled on this unfairness!!!). What I really want is for the teams with the biggest budget to hog the best talent (a bit like the Yankees did in the 40s and 50s)...then, eventually, I want the draft to come in to elevate the unfairness. Point 2...I guessed that would be the case. I'll have to think of something else. Thanks again. |
