Can a player with falling ratings recover?
I'm currently nearing the trade deadline in my league, and wondering what to do with my former star 1B, Eric Weaver.
[IMG] [/IMG]When I traded for him 3 years ago he was a mostly developed ML prospect with plus-plus power. He has performed well up to now, but between the end of last season and opening day, his ratings fell signficantly. [IMG] [/IMG]I still have him on contract for 2 more seasons, but am not entirely sure whether to keep him in a platoon situation, or try to trade him. However, he has very little 'shop' value (a few old crappy relievers and 1-star scrubs). I know he's no spring chicken (mid-20s), but I think he might be showing signs of imploding anyway. So I'm wondering, for players who have taken a bigger rating hit (I don't mean the kind of fluctuation where, for instance, their CON goes down 1 point, then back up 6 mos. later), do they ever "recover" more of their former ratings glory, or is their usual trajectory simply downward? Yes absolutely. It's rare but when it happens it is amazing.
Edit; What are your TCR settings?

RchW,
Thanks for the little bit of hope haha. BTW my TCR is the default of 100. My follow-up question would be: would you prefer to trade a player in this kind of situation, or keep them and hope for the best? |

A TCR of 100 is fine. I asked because players who set it to 20 can't expect a realistic experience.

I've NEVER seen it in 50+ replays from OOTP 5 on...
I've always asked for more realistic drops and rises, such as batting average, HR power and Avoid Ks might go down, but gap power and Eye might go up...many above average players have made this type of swing to stay in the majors into their 30's However, I've seen enough players stay stagnant after an initial drop like this in mid 20's, so 2 years...he has a good chance of staying like this if that won;t hurt your team too much. If so, put him on waivers, take him off, do it again and again and maybe someone will bite by Sept. What are your development and aging % ?
