Promotion/Relegation League
How do you pull off promotion/relegation leagues?
I want to have a league that is the Premier League and a league that is Division 1, with a possibility to expand to Division 2 or 3 in the future. I want them to have a shared draft. I feeder leagues to fill the draft pool. I want the winners in Div 1 to join the Premier League and the losers in the Premier League to become Div 1 teams when they lose. How do I set this up? I know people are doing this out there. Edit: Moderator, please move to 'New to game' forum. Last edited by Jythier; 02-27-2014 at 01:37 PM. Reason: Wrong forum |

You need to manually move teams when the preseason begins. If you do it a other times history books get more messed up. For a shared draft you'd likely need to do associations between the leagues I would imagine, and those generally make the game a little unstable. I've never done that but it shouldn't be hard at all to do

How does one move teams?
Also, can I create a Cup that includes teams from both leagues? How? This is great stuff to put in the manual... |

To move teams go to edit league structure in league setup.
Are you talking about postseason? If so associations can set it up automatically and customizable. In season you have to schedule it yourself manually on edit league schedule, which is what I do. |

they are a great idea, but not really implemented very well. game freezes and shuts down a lot more when they are in the game and just seem a little tacked on. have provided lots of fun though for me with the little they do well

I'm planning to play a hands-off sort of game, just letting the AI play, and seeing what happens, who goes where, that sort of thing. Then maybe deciding on a team to take all the way up the ladder.

Okay, I got everything set up, got my Cup set up, exciting!
Bummer that you can't set up multiple playoffs though. Would have liked to have set up the 4 lower leagues into a Cup as well to determine a winner of sorts for them. I ran a full season (takes a lot longer to sim this one than my 8 team league!) and mucked about with the teams to get them into the right leagues based on the results, and it appears to have worked! Yay! I have to check on the financials though because there is a media contract element to this where the top league gets 35 mil as opposed to 25 mil, so I have to make sure that happened. So I have a top league that is the championships, and 4 bottom leagues that promote to it. Everyone who wins their league championship (no playoffs) promotes, and whatever team wins the cup promotes (or stays in the Premier League). So with 8 teams per league, half the top league is guaranteed to be sent down. I'm still not sure how I'm handling demotions, as to which division they end up in. Currently it's geographical but I can see that failing very quickly. I think I'll do a 'highest record picks' method and then have them pick whatever league is closest to them - or if I notice that one league tends to be easier to succeed in I'll start sending the top team there. |
