Free Agents Draft?
I just purchased OOTP 14 a week ago and have started a 2013 MLB league. The manual proved very handy for 99 percent of my questions, but I do have one that I can't find an answer for, either in the manual or on the forums.
I have elected to play with the financials turned off. I'm much more into drafting and managing the in-season day-to-day lineups, major/minor league transactions, etc., and I don't want to be bogged down by a ton of financial stuff. I do not know how this will affect free agency/signing free agents. I noticed there's an option for a "free agents draft" that can be done at any point. My question is, if I do this on the first day of the offseason, will that replace the typical method of free agency (namely, making offers/signing them, if financials were turned on), with every available free agent that offseason simply being part of the free agent draft? I hope that's the case because that would solve my only "dilemma" with the financials off (since I have no idea how signing free agents would work with no financials, and I also think it would be way too easy that way for me to load up my team). I apologize if this is a stupid question, I really thought I'd be able to find the answer somewhere but I'm drawing a blank and I'd like to have an answer before I finish the first season. |

When you click on it, it schedules the FA draft for that day. So I would schedule it on the first day of free agency. You would have to do this manually every year.
This puts every FA in, well, a draft. You would probably want to change the rounds to be proportionate to the number of FAs, and you should probably make it a serpentine draft. With no financials, the players are on their teams and that's it. With financials, the players get a one-year contract based on OOTP evaluations. |

Wait, do I not have to worry about free agency at all? There is a list of potential/upcoming free agents at the end of the season, but maybe they don't become free agents with the financials off? That would actually be cool with me.

1) Are you looking for a FA-less universe?
2) Are you looking for a way to severely restrict players reaching free agency? There are ways to do both of those also.

Basically, I'm just trying to find out what happens with "free agents" if the financials are turned off. The answer to that question would/will influence my decision.
I'm definitely keeping the financials turned off. |

With financials off, there would be no FA, unless the players were released by the AI teams.
