AI Lineups and Positions

I am running a no-development league with historical teams from all different eras, the ones found in the Strat-o-Matic Old-Timer card set. I am currently editing the rosters to mimic the Strat set, so 20 players on each team (for the most part).

The roster booklet organizes players into pitchers, catchers, infielders, and outfielders, based on what they played in real life. However, some players are imported at positions not what they are listed in the book, which leads to me simply changing the position.

The roster book also comes with a "Lineup most frequently used". I do not want to use these lineups, as I don't want to edit them all and they may not work well with OOTP ratings. HOWEVER, I do want the AI to use the players at their positions in the roster book, which the OOTP AI does not do.

For example, the 1962 Mets:
The lineup in the book is as follows:
Ashburn, RF
Mantilla, 3B
Hickman, CF
Thomas, LF
Throneberry, 1B
Taylor, C
Neal, 2B
Chicon, SS

However, the lineup OOTP has is:
Woodling, LF
Mantilla, SS
Ashburn, CF
Thomas, 1B
Throneberry, RF
Neal, 2B
Hickman, 3B
Coleman, C

Normally I would be fine with this, but Throneberry is an infielder and Thomas is an outfielder in the book. Is there any way to force OOTP to use them the way I want to without actually editing any of the players' fielding ratings or lineups/depth charts?

Basically what I want is for OOTP to create its own lineups, but with players at their proper positions.

If there is no solution, it's no biggie, but I'm kind of OCD when it comes to this kind of stuff.

What is your recalc set to? 1-yr or something else? And how about the setting for roles/positions? Is it based on real life stats?

I didn't set anything for re-calc. I just created a fictional league, deleted the fictional teams, and imported all of the historical teams. It's not a historical league, per say.

The quick answer is that you can simply lock them into the position that you want them to play, on the individual player strategy page.

Out of curiosity, I looked to see what BR had for the 62 Mets lineups. They used 141 different batting orders in 161 games. 7 different players played Catcher, 8 played 1B, 6 played 2B, 5 played SS, an astonishing 9 played 3B, 8 played LF, 6 played CF, and a frankly unsettling 12 played RF.

Kanehl played 7 different positions, Hickman played 5, Ashburn played 4, 7 different players each played 3 different positions.

To sum up, when playing the 62 Mets I would expect lots of lineup and position changes for almost every game, if the team were to truly reflect the historical team.

This is called Force Start and you can tell the AI what position you want the player to start in. I only comment because there are so many options the correct name can be useful. It is on the left half of the Player Strategy page about 1/2 way down.

Good luck

And all that lineup changing didn't help out the team much. I once did a cards and dice tourney with the worst 8 teams in history. The '62 Mets always found a way to lose, even against the worst of the worst.

What were the other 7 teams?

One of the first SOM games I ever played was 1927 Yankees vs. the 62 Mets, with my dad. (My first set was the old-timers) Suprisingly, the Yanks only won, 4-2.

Thanks JohnHoward and TGH.
