Suggest Pitcher's Role in League = Crash?

Has anybody else ever had this happen to them before? This is my first OOTP and I just started my first league and I'm still learning the interface and various functions in the game.

While trying to evaluate the pitcher's in my organization I occasionally cycle through the "Suggest Pitcher's role in League:" on the Player's Profile screen. Sometimes it will work, but a good amount of times it will crash...I hope this isn't a sign of things to come that my league is doomed to crash and burn before it really gets off the ground.

Has anybody else every had this happen to them? Or from clicking anything else? I have pretty solid computer, so I'm not sure what's going on!

It gives a message something like this:

"OOTP has stopped working, windows is searching for solution"
then:
"A problem has caused this program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"

... and all I can do is click "Close Program"...for now I'm going to stop clicking on this and hope I don't run into that problem on any more important/necessary functions!

Well, that is the message that you get whenever OOTPB crashes, from any cause, so there's no clue there.

Heh, I'll spare you the old joke about telling the doctor that doing this hurts, and he tells you to stop doing that and you'll feel much better. (Actually, I just told it, didn't I?)

Anyway, what you are seeing be just a hint of things to come, as you feared. The act itself of selecting from that drop-down menu should not crash the game and is not something that I have heard anything about in these forums. Instead, it may be an indication that your league files have been corrupted somehow.

You say your computer is in good shape but you may still want to run a defrag and exclude your OOTP game folders from your anti-virus program. Also, sometimes uninstalling and reinstalling OOTP itself might clear up a problem.

If it persists, however, you might need to build another league. Sorry.

Yep I've been running defrags often once I got an idea of how many files OOTP uses. I'll have to figure out how to make my anti-virus exclude the OOTP folder, good suggestion.

Sadly I found out another way to make my game crash...and this happens 100% of the time, no matter what.

When I goto "Load Quickstart Game" from the main menu...I see a list of the quickstart games.

-ABA
-All Time Greatest
-Majors
-Seamheads Laundry League
-etc

Well the issue I have is whenever I click the 6th quickstart file on the list I get that OOTP crash message. Every single time it's a crash and it's instantaneous(can't even attempt to start it or read the descriptions). At first I thought the specific quick start file was broken, so I deleted it, but then a previous working file that took it's place on the 6th line was now doing the exact same crash...all other quickstart slots work fine

I made a workaround for this problem, but it's pretty inelegant and I doubt other people have this issue.

I manually created two empty .quick folders in my quick start saves folder...so now my quick start list looks like the following:

-ABA
-All Time Greatest
-Majors
-Seamheads Laundry League
-"Tom an empty folder"
-"Tom bugged slot DON'T CLICK HERE"
-etc.... (here's where my actual quick start files are)

Can you see if your game crashes by clicking on the 6th slot of your quickstart games list? Or if it crashes on any of them? This gives me hope that my league might not be messed up, but it could just be the actual client...which means I could try the reinstall route (if excluding it from anti-virus method doesn't work). Thanks in advance!

Well I'll be darned. It happened exactly as you said. If there is a new quickstart game in the #6 slot, calling it up will crash the game. If it's been used before, however, and was moved to that slot by saving another quickstart game, it's fine. In both screen prints below, I clicked the #6 game even though the highlight is on the game above or below it (the blue colored link is the one that was actually clicked, the sixth game in each list). I will report this in the bug thread.

This is not good news to you, though. If it had NOT happened to me, then it might have been an indication that your OOTP game installation was at fault which could be quickly remedied by uninstalling and reinstalling it. Since we know that this bug is common to us both, then the other thing with the drop-down "Suggest pitcher's role" menu, which does seem to be unique to you, is an indication that your league files are corrupt. You know the resolution to that problem, unfortunately.
