Teams without nicknames
Hello there, I'm creating a league. But i would like the town names only, and not a nickname. Let's say : Washington Wolves..
Just want it to say Washington, is this possible? How does the game handle that? |

Just where do you want the game to handle this, everywhere?

I too would like to know... a league I am creating has it's main focus on the cities, and nicknames are kind of useless. I know it can be done, but I don't want a news story or PBP to say, "The shut out the 6-0.

In nickname area put the city name also but you will on occasion have a story of the Washington Washington beat the Philadelphia Philadelphia. You go with Baseball Club for all of them but then you have Washingtons Joe Smith dominated the Baseball Club. Just dont know who. I would do city abbreviation with Baseball Club. Washington WAS Baseball Club beat the Philadelphia PHI Baseball Club.

Is this true though? A nickname is compulsory?

But The game only talked about situations where you had either the city name as nickname or "baseball club" as nickname, not if it was blank, eh?

I have never tried to leave them blank. I am interested to see what it would do.

Teams without nicknames
I have played iOOTP (OOTP for iPhone, pretty much a lite version), which comes without team nicknames because of Apple rules. Once I forgot to put them in, and during PBP I would get "BIG inning! The score 5 runs on 6 hits..." or "The have a 2-2 record against the this year", and in news, "The Jimmy Rollins went 5-5 against the today". Basically every time a nickname is used, nothing would be put in it's place, hence the double spaces. You could do a massive edit of the english.xml file, rewording all of the team nickname tags so instead of, "The Phillies down the Marlins", which would lead to a double space, you could have "Philadelphia downs Miami" which would work fine.
One thing that couldn't be fixed, as you would have extra spaces in places like player history, for example, "Was traded to the Philadelphia for Freddy Galvis", or something to that effect. And the "the City" doesn't sound to great either. EDIT: Seeing tx's post you might not get the double space, but the extra the sounds bad and you would get no team when only the nickname is mentioned. Last edited by Ike348; 02-04-2014 at 07:13 PM. |

The likely result. Maybe take the variation The Game suggested, and put the team's abbreviation in the nickname slot. At least The TEX doesn't sound outrageously out of place. FWIW
