OOTP comes up with strange World Series matchup

In a historical league, the White Sox and Cubs both win on final day on season to finish in tie with A's and Phils, who were both idle...
I finish the final day of season, and OOTP schedules one-game playoffs for each league...
I edit the schedule to switch the location of one of the playoff games and add (regular-season) games for each to make three-game playoffs for each league...
The White Sox and Cubs each win game one...
After a day off for each league, the A's and Phillies take the second games (teams are now tied)...
The next day, the White Sox and Phillies win the third games, ending the regular season, with the White Sox and Phillies apparently winning pennants...
After I advance to the next day, OOTP schedules an A's vs Phillies World Series, rather than a Sox vs Phillies series.

Normally, I would've scheduled the full three-game series (or in the case, BOTH three-game series) before I advanced to the next day. In this case, I didn't do that; rather, I let OOTP schedule the game ones and then - before playing either game one - I scheduled games 2 and 3 for each league). However, even if OOTP was ignoring the games I added (games two and three of each series), the Chicago teams won each game one. So, I can't figure out why the game chose the Philly teams to advance to the World Series. Perhaps OOTP was looking at the results of each game two, but I can't find anything in either how things were setup or how they evolved that would lead to that.

The final standings show what I would expect, that each team played 157 games and that the White Sox and Phillies each finished one game ahead.

Not a huge deal from the perspective that this is just a test/goof-around league, but it is very strange. Any ideas what happened?

It is a conspiracy! The Sox would have won the World series!
