Resting Hot Players
I had a question about benching players who were hot. I'm 3 games away from play offs, and 3 of my players are currently hot. Would it be better to bench them, or keep letting them play until the play offs?
2nd question; I have my number one pitcher scheduled to pitch the 1st game of the last 3 game series, before we go to the wild card game. Should I sit him until the game or let him go on 4 days rest? |

1. It doesn't really matter because of the off day before the playoffs. I'd let them play.
2. It's really your choice. If a playoff spot is up for grabs, I know I'd pitch my ace in game 160. If it doesn't really matter, there's no sense in risking an injury. |

I would rest one batter per day. Your wildcard game is what 1 to 2 days after the season finale? I would sit him til the WC game otherwise he is pitching on 4 days rest. If it would be normal rest I would start him but not have him go over 100-110 pitches depending on what your Stamina settings are.

If you cannot alter your position in the standings rest as many as possible. Make sure you ace and your #2 are pitching on full-rest.
There is no such thing as a hot player in OOTP (I think). It is all random variation. But the important thing to remember about hot players is that their morale will be a little higher due to recent performance. Players with higher morale will play better. So, it would be wise to sit all of them so as not to impact their hot status. I would only let each one play one more game each. Pitchers wouldn't start at all.

I recently put Chipper Jones into the HOF. He retired in 2014. He still had a fire icon next to his name.

I think the point here is that the "hot" and "cold" symbols are merely cosmetic; they reflect a player's recent performance, but by no means predict that he's going to continue playing well or poorly.

I must be confused then because I got the impression that the OP didn't want to ruin a streak by resting players.
