One of my star players says he refuses to negotiate with me further

"We seem to be too far apart"

Sure, except I've never once offered him an extension. Soooo... ??

Is there any way to fix this?

it means he just doesn't want to play for you, or in your city or state. i'd just leave it alone, life's like that sometimes.

but that said you can always go into the editor and edit his contract. I am not sure if you can reset his mood as I have never done it but I don't see why it wouldn't be in there someplace.

He just wants to become a free agent and doesn't want to resign with you. It happens pretty often irl. It's not really something you need to "fix".

Oh - that actually happens in the game? That's pretty cool - if sucky for me since he's been worth 10.5 WAR over his first 2.5 seasons in the majors, as a catcher. Looks like I'll have to trade him :/

I thought it was something wrong with the game.

I never negotiate contract more than twice in one game day I usually will wait a couple days before negotiating again ..... if you can do without the player then let him go and just go for another replacement and take a look if you can trade him or look at the upcoming free agents pile or hope to trade him right after world series. Things get complicated if the player has a 10/5 rule where he can refuse any trades

It's d'Arnaud, so no 10/5 to worry about. I'll keep him til his final year of arby, then deal him, I suppose. The good news is I should be able to get a HAUL for him as an AS catcher at age 30.

I've been playing a no-trade league for a while now so these players who refuse to re-sign with me are a huge disaster. With trades on, I feel like I can compensate for anything by just dealing the player.

Happened with him in my leagues too. He's never willing to talk extensions.

Kind of weird, I've seen it 3 or 4 times.

That's funny. I checked him out and he has a high loyalty rating and only a slightly high greed rating, so he shouldn't be completely unwilling to re-sign in game after game

Does the happiness rating have anything to do with negotiations?

in my first simulation he wasn't worth resigning. actually the whole Dickey trade was a bust for both side. RA had career ending injury one year later, Travis put up 1.2 WAR career, and Syndergaard never even made to playoff

I don't think enough players in OOTP choose FA. I'd like to see a response that indicates the players will test FA (like v6.5?) but include a willingness to sign back or maybe even a commitment to let you match an outside offer.

The one modern sim I did, R. A. Dickey got traded around until he became a Marlins MR, retired after a year of 6.85 ERA.

They could have just brought back Hough for half the price and twice the age.

(I made Dickey an HOFer anyway.)

Well not for OP to fix, and not a bug to be fixed. What could be enhanced, however is the message notification system. The message about being "too far apart," which implies differences over money, is being used for other situations like wanting to be a free agent, play for a winner, play closer to home, etc. If each of these could have its own descriptive notification phraseology, that would be a significant improvement, in my opinion.

If realism is the goal then you can't exclude the player not responding at all. This happens in real life. Sometimes there is no definable reason.

I hope in OOTP 15 teams are less apt to trade for players with expiring contracts or will offer a lot less for them.

True, but even there it could be "The player refuses to negotiate" or "Sorry, we have nothing to talk about" rather than "We seem to be too far apart."

Same effect, just more descriptive of the situation and cause, that's all.

Just tossing my $0.02 in the mix here. If d'Arnaud is within 2 years of becoming a FA then most likely he has his sights set on free agency and is not interested in negotiating an extension with you. As others have said, it does happen in real life. So no, nothing to fix here.
