It leads me to believe OOTP fixes it beforehand. I added the likes of Boegarts, Wong, Kershaw, Stanton, Sale, Oscar Taveras, Kimbrel, and other 4 and 5 star players. Nearly every spot on the roster was 4-5 stars.
I finished 3rd in runs scored and 1st in runs against, yet finished 4th and missed the playoffs. I think it's because OOTP had me punched in for 4th anyway, and so had to unnaturally jack up what the Phillies did. The Phillies won 92 games with basically a hodgepodge of 1 star and 3 star players. |

My theory is I upset the natural timeline. Given the state of the Mets roster in 2013, there was no way they would be in a position to contend for 2015. But through a ton of trades and mountains of free agents signings, within one year I unnaturally turned them into a powerhouse.
While the Nationals and Braves have correct records, it had to insanely adjust the Phillies to make sure the Mets maintained the 4th spot. |

Now you tell me how that Phillies team managed to win 92 games over that Mets team. I've seen some miracles in OOTP but never like that.

And yes, I started in 2013 with the Mets and turned it into that by the end of 2015.

It's only because OOTP knows who the better franchise is...

That's why they play the games.

That being said, OOTP doesn't work that way. It doesn't predetermine anything. You're talking about "correct records" several years in the future. There's no such thing as a correct record several years into the game, after the rosters change greatly. The record is based on what the team is then, plus a bit of luck, not what the team was in 2013. So why did you get results that don't match your expectations? There are several possible reasons. First, there's a great deal of variance in any player and team's possible results, whether in OOTP or irl. If you sim a season 1,000 times you'll get different results in each season. If your team is great you'll generally do well, but any any given one of those sims some players may under perform, you may have bad luck, get hit with injuries etc. It's the same for a bad team. Once or twice they'll just get quite lucky and play way above their heads. Second, you only show the ratings, whereas OOTP doesn't simply rely on the ratings to get results. It also relies on past years stats, depending on just how much you have the game set to use stats/ratings. So if a lot of those Phillies guys had good years previously and then their ratings dropped off, or the Mets had bad years previously and then the ratings climbed, you'll see results that aren't entirely consistent with only looking at the ratings. Third, you don't show anything about defense. If your defense is poor then much of the advantage you'd gain from your top pitchers can be lost. If the Phillies put a great defense behind average pitchers, then they could easily outperform their pitchers ratings. So there's a lot of reasons what you're showing could happen, none of which have anything to do with results being predetermined. Last edited by Lukas Berger; 01-01-2014 at 12:23 PM. |

There is a very simple way to determine if OOTP "cheats" or not. Start a historical league in 1969 and just sim the whole season. I'm betting the Mets don't win.

I can 100% guarantee you that OOTP does not "fix" any outcomes at all. All you have to do is sim a game/month/season, crash the game, and re-sim to see for yourself. Also, is scouting on? There's no guarantee all those 1- and 3-star players are actually 1- and 3-star players, especially since you didn't post their stats.
As for realism, ask yourself this - should the Red Sox have won the World Series this year, on paper? |

A simpler, but less obvious variant of results, example is in the Preseason Predictions. Basically, these are arrived at through a 3-yr quick sim, IIRC, and the results are then posted for the users review. Whether it shows the last year or the average, it doesn't matter. What does, is that they're seldom spot on, even with regard to the top hitters and pitchers. Some players and teams fall right into line, but most won't. It's only an indicator or prediction of what the season will hold.
In my last season, I was 'predicted' to finish dead last in my division and none of my players were featured as top performers. I managed to pull out a wild card spot and make the playoffs, and my young ace took home the equivalent of the Cy Young award, The Guiding Hand. It is what it is, a combination of many, many calcuations based on the moment and strange results can and do occur. Actually, what strikes me most odd about your OP is the overall winning percentages across the board. All the teams in that division did extremely well, and whether that should surprise me can be argued, but it does.
