My name is Jason David Green and this is my story...


An avid...obsessive...boxing fan since I was young, I started my boxing career in the early 1980's with 11 straight wins. Sadly, a bad tumble off my snowboard left me with a torn ACL, PCL, MCL and a few more torn "CLs" that I didn't know I even had! Unable to box competitively anymore I went to work for my father's company, selling industrial waste services to local businesses. For lack of a better word, the job sucked, but fortune would come my way in 1986 as I sold the patent for my latest invention, the revolutionary "cordless extension cord" to the Westinghouse Electric Company for..well let's just say alot more than my dad was paying me.


Seeing the troubles caused by shady promoters...cough Don King cough...I used my new found wealth to open a gym in my native Pittsburgh, Pa and began the process of signing fighters to the 3 Rivers Fight club, a training and promotional company. My plan is to assemble the finest talent in the boxing world and build a virtual "pugilistic empire" the likes never seen! Or I'll go broke and go back to work for my dad..either way...

Jason David Green (Me) - A great strategist and trainer and good motivator, I will be handling both training and cutman duties for several fighters, both big names and prospects alike.






Matt "Matty" Kane - My cousin Matt, a decent amatuer boxing who was derailed by his lack of "focus". A good stategist and great motivator, he will be working as a trainer for the 3RFC. Besides, he's usually crashing on my couch and mooching food & beer so might as well put him to work.






Kevin Rooney - A well known and high profile trainer. Can be great if we can keep the DUI's in check. He brings one quite high profile boxer to the 3 Rivers Fight Club...can you guess who?






Tony Salazar - The son of a journeyman boxer and solid all around trainer. He speaks Spanish which will be invaluable in the fight game for obvious reasons.






Norm Walker - A solid trainer & cutman who's been in the fight game longer than I've been alive. He runs the gym on a day to day basis, runs a boxing class for local kids and handles some of the "lower level" prospects for the 3RFC. For reasons noone quite knows, everyone calls him "Mickey".






"Gentleman" Jim Williams - Perhaps the nicest guy in boxing and an elite cutman. He obviously handles cut duties for the top fighters in our stable.

The Big Names:







Even as Mike Tyson was destroying the "lineal" Heavyweight champ Michael Spinks in 91 seconds to cement his place as the best heavyweight in the world, Iron Mike was in turmoil behind the scenes. His longtime relationship with manager Bill Clayton was disolving. Most expected Tyson to sign with Don King, but the boxing world was left stunned when Tyson, and trainer Kevin Rooney, signed a 5-year promotional deal with the upstart 3 Rivers Fight Club. Tyson's marriage to actress (I use that term loosely) Robin Givens is on it's way to divorce, but his professional career has achieved a measure of stability. For reasons noone quite knows, his contract with the 3RFC forbids him from travelling to Japan...or Indianapolis.




"Iron" Mike Tyson 35-0 (32 KOs)
(Trainer - Rooney/Cutman - Williams)
WBA, WBC & IBF Heavyweight champion


Assesment: Not much to say here, Tyson is the #1 man in boxing as we head into 1989. The plan is to keep him on top as long as possible...perhaps long enough to challenge Marciano's 49-0 record. The Heavyweight division is weak, but an impressive & undefeated Evander Holyfield has just made the jump to Heavyweight; while an imposing British Olympic medalist is about to turn pro, possibly leading to a few "super fights" down the line.

John "The Beast" Mugabi 30-2 (30)
(Green/Green)


Assesment: One of the most fearsome JMW ever, Mugabi suffered a high profile loss in 1986 to Marvin Hagler and hasn't been quite the same since. Now fighting at MW, Mugabi is struggling somewhat with conditioning as we try to get his career back on track.

Alex "The Destroyer" Stewart 19-0 (19)
(Salazar/Williams)


Assesment: Alex is one of the rising stars in boxing. Never been in the ring with a top level fighter, but has won every bout by KO so far. He's only 24, so we will take our time building him up. Not sure what to do if Tyson's still the champ when Stewart's ready for a title fight.


Next Fight: 2-25-89 vs Melton Bowen (11-1 (8))


* Again this fight is on the Tyson vs Bruno undercard. We decided to bring our opponent with us. With Stewart being a Brit now living in the US, we didn't want him geting booed by the London crowd by facing a hometown fighter as this is his first major fight. (televised on HBO)

The "Second Level" Guys:





"Smokin" Bert Cooper 20-3-0 (17)
(Kane/Green)


Assesment: Cooper is a very good cruiser with great power...unfortunately he is struggling to make weight and has already lost to Heavyweights Carl Williams and Everett Martin. We'll keep him at cruiser as long as possible, maybe challeging for one of the belts vacated by Evander Holyfield when he made the jump to Heavyweight last year.

"Gentleman" Jerry Cooney 28-2 (24)
(Walker/Williams)


Assesment: On his best day Cooney was good but not great...just ask Larry Holmes...but he is still a "draw" in the sport. Guess some people are still hung up on the whole "Great White Hope" thing. Jerry is probably a "mid-tier" guy now, but has the power to pull an upset on any night. A few tune ups before we try and get him in the ring for one last big payday.

Tracy Spann (LW) 19-0 (14)


Assesment: Spann is a LW who has shown ferocious power against bottom rung talent. Can he hang with the better competiton in the ultra-competetive Lightweight division? We have an early test for him...a shot at the vacant WBO LW title!

*This fight will be at Caesar's Atlantic City and will be for the WBO title

*The first three prospects are fictional. I used the RFG to create a batch of fighters and selected 3 to use, I tweaked a few stats, added pictures and in the case of "The Cobra" changed the name and we're set. The last two prospects are real fighters...

Pre-Prime - Overall Rating 7


Assesment: Anthony is the top prospect at the 3RFC. Above average speed and skill, very good power (9) and a ton of heart. Will he be good..great...legendary? Only time will tell. Will most likely move to MW soon...is part of a crop of MW talents entering the sport from 1988-1990 that included Roy Jones Jr, Bernard Hopkins, Gerald McClellan & James Toney, so he could get overshadowed. Will be facing "pugs" for the near future.







"The Battler from Brisbane" Mark Yates - 0-0 - JWW

Beginning - 4


Assesment: Yates is an Australian who is quiet and reserved outside the ring, and a showboater in the ring. Good power (8). Also will be facing off against "pugs".









Abu Bakr Rakin 0-0 - BW

Beginning - 3


Assesment: Rakin is a brash 21 yo originally from Tunisia. He possesses good all around skills. Has already "ruffled some feathers" with his attitude. Could go either way.









Jake "The Snake" Rodriguez 0-0-1 - JWW

Assesment: 28-8-2 in real life. Let's see if I can do better.

Assesment: Probably a journeyman. Real world record of 20-3-1, I'm going to try and improve on that.

OOC - Thanks for all the kind words. My first diary on the forums fizzled...I suppose trying to replay the ENTIRE history of pro boxing was a bit ambitious...so I figure I will follow a small group of fighters instead. While I do a very brief bit of research on the fighters (ok a quick wikipedia search) I am by no means an expert on these fighters. I understand the behind the scenes "politics" of the sport are complex...this fighter wouldn't fight because his deal was with HBO not Showtime, this promoter wouldn't let that fighter defend his belt against that contender etc...but this is pure fan fiction so historical accuracy may be comprimised. I chose the time period because A) Tyson was still at his peak and was about to sign with King, so I stole him and B) I was a teen in 89 and can actually remember being a fan then...

About the 3 Rivers Fight Club...


- I've started with 11 fighters, some will go, some new will be signed but I plan on keeping the stable between 15 and 20


- The 3RFC has a "working relationship" with the newly founded WBO...not a Don King/WBC type deal, but several of my fighters will be competing for WBO titles


- The first few fights for each boxer are already simmed, but moving forward if their is anyone you'd like to see in the 3RFC, or any fighters you want one of my guys to go up against feel free to let me know. Doubt I can accomadate every request but I will try my best


- It's late here on the East Coast so I will start posting the fights tomorrow

A good crowd of about 2,000 are on hand. The undercard features some local talent plus two bouts featuring fighters from the 3RFC...


Ricky Meyers vs Sloan Harrison (pug)
4 Rounds - JWW

This is Meyers second pro fight. He looked inspired but struggled with the "professional loser" Harrison. No knockdowns, cuts or swelling. Myers pulls out the win, but doesn't dominate.

Abu Bakr Rakin vs Martin Joyce (pug)
4 Rounds - BW

This is Rakin's debut. True to form he trash talked from the opening bell. Joyce had no chance as Rakin swarmed him with punches from the start. About a minute and a half into the first round, Rakin landed an uppercut that folded Joyce like an accordian. The ref counted to 10 and just like that, Rakin is 1-0!

"Smokin" Bert Cooper (20-3 (17))

Michael Greer (38-6-3(25))
10 Rounds - CW

Cooper suffered a loss to heavyweight Everett Martin in June of last year, and this is his second fight back at cruiserweight since that defeat. Greer is a tough journeyman from Nashville. Round 1 saw the two stand in the center of the ring and trade heavy blows. Cooper won the close round on all three scorecards. Early in the second a short right to the chin of Greer sent him to the canvas for the first time. He made it to his feet but never really recovered. Cooper dropped him a second time around the two minute mark, this time with an uppercut. Again Greer climbed to his feet, but Cooper unloaded on him. He trapped Greer against the ropes throwing power shots until the referee had no choice, waving off the fight with 12 seconds left in the second round...Greer was out on his feet!

I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't nervous in the days leading up to our "vacation" to jolly ol' England. Sure I'd trained some local fighters before, and the Cooper vs Greer card we co-promoted last month was a success but this...this was going to be different. A sold out crowd at Wembley Arena...a hostile sold out crowd. Live on PPV worldwide. All eyes were on Tyson...and Mugabi...and Stewart...on the 3 Rivers Fight Club. I played it off during training and in the pre-fight interviews but yeah, I was nervous...

As expected Wembley was standing room only with over 12,000 on hand. Every non-UK fighter was serenaded with "God Save the Queen" on their way to the ring. Seeing as some in England still refer to the USA as "the colonies", it came as no suprise that the prospect of a British heavyweight having a shot at dethroning Mike Tyson and winning the World title, no matter how slim the chance was for Bruno, had the crowd whipped into a frenzy.


After a few prelims featuring local talent, the first of 4 fights featuring 3RFC talent was next...

Halton, a hard working club fighter from Blackpool, had no business being in the ring with a fighter the caliber of Anthony. "The Cobra" picked him apart through the first round and put him out with a vicious combination early in the second for an easy KO win, taking his record to 6-0.

Alex Stewart (19-0/19KO) vs Melton Bowen (11-1/8KO)
10 Rounds - HW

Coming into the fight, Stewart was a 10-1 favorite with most expecting an early KO. The fight went exactly as planned.

...for 54 seconds...

A sharp hook from Bowen caught Stewart under the ribcage less than a minute into the fight. Stewart clearly had the wind taken out of him and spent the rest of the round on the defensive, a round that went to Bowen on all three scorecards. In the 2nd, a round were neither man landed much, Stewart crowded and held onto Bowen as he regained his senses. In the third and fourth rounds Stewart, now fully recovered, took over. Landing hard shot after hard shot on the smaller Bowen. Twice during the first minute and a half of round five Bowen was dropped to the canvas. Both times he beat the count and somehow the rubber legged, glassy eyed Bowen made it through the round despite Stewart unloading a ridiculous amount of power shots. Stewart took round six as well but he was slowing down. His punches were loosing their sting, his head movement was non-existent and he started taking way too many hard punches from Bowen. Stewart was never in serious danger of being knocked out, but Bowen easily took 3 of the last 4 rounds. Despite fading down the stretch, the pair of knockdowns in round five was enough and Stewart took a much harder than expected unanimous decision to move to 20-0.

Mugabi started the fight fast, pummeling Watson early with wild power punches. Mugabi had been less than focused during training and as expected he lost steam quickly. While the first two rounds were all Mugabi, with Watson just trying to avoid the early KO, rounds three and four were even affairs with both men throwing a ludicrous amount of punches. In the fifth, with Watson having taken everything Mugabi had to throw and "The Beast" getting tagged with punch after punch, the end came suddenly. A five punch flurry from Watson sent Mugabi sprawling to the canvas. The last punch was a right cross, but it was the second punch of the flurry that did the damage, a nasty left hook to the temple. The referee stood over Mugabi for the ten count, but he could have counted to 100 as Mugabi was out. An embarrising 5th round ko loss drops Mugabi to 30-3 and, for now, out of the title picture.

I helped Mugabi back to the dressing room, trying to lift his spirits while secretly hoping this loss would get his head out of his *** and get him more serious about training. I then made my way back to ringside for the main event...

There were so many questions surrounding the champ...would signing with 3RFC affect his training...would his marital problems play on his psyche...would his nearly 8 month lay-off since the Spinks fight hurt him? It took less than a minute to get an answer. At 54 seconds of round one, Tyson slipped a Bruno jabbed and unleased a murderous overhand right that tagged Bruno in the jaw and sent him staggering into the ropes. Unlike Stewart in the earlier fight, Tyson took his time rather than flailing away at his dazed opponent. For the rest of round 1 Tyson strung together combinations that hurt Bruno repeatedly. It was amazing that Bruno survived round one. That's where his luck ran out. Just 30 seconds into round two, Tyson connected with a left hook that staggered Bruno. Seconds later a right uppercut sent Bruno to the mat. Bruno was up at the count of 4 but it was just a matter of time at that point. "Iron" Mike hammered away on Bruno for over another minute until referee Richard Steele had seen enough and jumped between the fighters and waved it off. Bruno didn't even protest the stoppage, as Tyson wins with an impressive 2nd rd TKO to move to 36-0.

Overall, our little jaunt to merry ol' England was a success...but still a bit of a mixed bag...


The Good:

- Granted it was against a low level opponent, but top prospect Dave Anthony was calm, cool and collected fighting infront of 12,000+ hostile fans. MUST resist the urge to rush him against higher level opponents.


- A win is a win right? We expected alot more from Alex Stewart but he still gutted out a hard fought win against Melton Bowen. We could call it a learning experience.


- Tyson proved all the naysayers wrong with one of his most dominate performances to date. His $12 million + winner's purse was record setting.




The Bad:

- Was the Stewart/Bowen fight the case of a tougher than expected fighter (Bowen) fighting his heart out against a superior boxer (Stewart) or, is Stewart just over rated? Only time will tell.


- Is Tyson too good? We played up the "return of Tyson" after 8 months off and the whole US vs UK angle to get a decent PPV buy, but there aren't many big name opponents left for him to face. Holyfield's camp claims they want atleast 2 or 3 more "tune-up" fights before he challenges for the title. ditto for the returning George Foreman. The division is pretty weak. The WBC mandatory opponent in Carl "The Truth" Williams.




The Ugly:

- John "The Beast" Mugabi. He unloaded everything he had against a good, but certainly not great, fighter and Watson just shrugged it off and layed him out. Maybe the 154pd limit is where Mugabi needs to be, because he's looked pretty bad @ 160.

During the pre-fight press conferences for the Tracy Spann/Tony Pep bout, 3 Rivers Fight Club owner Jason David Green announced the following fights...


- "Smokin" Bert Cooper will travel to Rome, Italy on March 30th to face relative unknown Italian cruiserweight Angelo Rottoli (28-1-2/14KO) for the vacant WBO cruiserweight title.


- "Iron" Mike Tyson will defend the undisputed heavyweight championship against the WBC #1 contender Carl "The Truth" Williams (22-2/17KO). The location and date TBD, but the bout will take place in Las Vegas in late June.

This is Yates' first proffesional fight...

"Yates winds up for a bolo punch, then sneaks in the hook, bringing cheers from the crowd."

That's from 37 seconds into the first round of his first pro fight. Cocky much? Yates would cruise to a decision win over the badly overmatched Allen, to win his first pro fight.

WBO Lightweight Championship


Tracy Spann (19-4/14KO) vs Tony Pep (18-4/9KO)

Spann has been tearing through the lower ranks of the lightweight division to this point in his career. Tony Pep (Prime - 4) may not be a "world class" opponent, but he is a tough 6 year veteran and a former Canadian featherweight champion. How would Spann fair against the toughest oppenent in his career?

...Quite well actually...

Spann went right after Pep, rocking him early and often with combinations. Some swelling starts up around Pep's left eye near the end of the first. The swelling worsens through round two, but it's a hard hook to the body in round three that ends the fight. The punch lands under Pep's ribcage, he drops to one knee then falls face first to the mat. The ref starts the count but stops at seven when it becomes apparent that Pep isn't going to get up. An impressive 3rd round Ko by Tracy Spann moves his record to 20-0.

Cooper goes right after Rottoli, swarming him with power punches from the opening bell. Cooper walks through a hard cross from Rottoli and, realizing the Italian has nothing to hurt him with, steps up his assault. At 2:44 of round one, Cooper lands a wicked right hook to the head of Rottoli that drops him to the canvas. A ten count from the referee is academic, as Rottoli is out! Cooper wins the WBO cruiserweight title and moves to 22-3.

- John "The Beast" Mugabi to return to junior middleweight. After a disappointing KO loss to Michael Watson in February, Mugabi will return to the 154pd weight division were he had great success to begin his career. His next opponent will be "Irish" Brett Lally (21-4/13KO). The fight will take place on Thursday, April 27th and will aired the following Saturday on Showtime Championship Boxing. Despite taking the fight on relatively short notice, Mugabi and trainer Jason David Green are very confident of his chances in the fight.
