Who Is the Best Hitter & Pitcher By Decade?

In conjunction with the Presidents thread I am going to add one hitter and 1 batter from each decade to my league. It is the ABF starting in 1876. So who is the best use any stats or reasons you want I will even listen to FIP WAR cases. Babe Ruth is set in stone, Koufax is not.

Very few players to debate on your lists hfield & UK. UK i was gonna challenge you on Old Hoss Radbourn with Bobby Mathews then I just looked at Old Hoss' stats. 309 Wins with a 48 & 59 win season in there. So much for me wanting Mathews. Keefe vs Radbourn, wow, cant go wrong either way. H BoB Gibson did have the better decade, Koufax dominated for the 1st 5 years though, so still up for debate. I prefer Randy Johnson over Santana but lets see what others say.

I was going to debate Verlander vs Kershaw but Verlander kind of wraps around from late 00's to 10's. Plus he really didn't help my arguement this year.

They were the 2 years he started 141 games and completed 139 of them, I think his arm must have fell off in the 2 he didn't complete

Bat wise his stats are pretty much the same ss Griffey, shade more in fact but Griffey gained a Gold Glove every season in that decade at an harder position than Bonds that's why personally I went for Griffey over Bonds.

There is debate on how often he threw over hand.

I think you mean the 1990's. A-Roid and Pujols were clearly ahead of Bonds in the 2000's because Bonds was limited to 4000ish PA, while they had 6000+.

Yes i know he has 3 MVPS in the 90's yes he is a 40-40 guy before he was on steroids. I dunno. I feel bad not having one without the other.

Why are some of you going with Stieb in the 80's? WhileIi like him I never though him to be the best pitcher of the 80's. Orel Hershiser, maybe Saberhagen.

Hershiser, Gooden or Valenzuela. with a strong nod to Tudor

I would lean to Fernando but it's a personal thing, I just loved to watch him pitch.

Because stieb b had 7 all stars and was very good straight through the 80s from point a to B. I'll take ten good years over five.

Top 10 in pitching rWAR in the 1980's (1980-1989):

Stieb 48.5
Blyleven 38.1
Clemens 35.7
Welch 35.3
Valenzuela 33.1
Hershiser 32.9
Saberhagen 32.3
Tudor 31.3
Gooden 30.7
Hough 30.6

1.0 rWAR per year is very significant in my books and it puts him over the top. He would've had a bushel full of Cy Young Awards had it not been for the pitcher win bias and the team he pitched in the middle of nowhere for.

Not only was he a 40/40 guy however many times he did it, he was damn near a 40/40 guy for the decade of the 1990's with 361 HR and 343 SB for the decade. He's the 1990's guy unless you want to discount him for the roids. Then it's Griffey Jr., but Bonds (the nasty piece of work that he was) is definitely ahead of Jr.
